A couple of pointers, might be helpful:

  • You can use '' (two apostrophes) before and after the text you want to italicize.
  • You can use ''' (three apostrophes) before and after the text you want to embolden.
  • These two can overlap. So you can use ''''' (five apostrophes) before and after the text you want to italicize and embolden.

Examples:

This is ''italic''. looks like This is italic.
This is '''bold'''. looks like This is bold.
This is '''''bold-italic''''', or just '''something ''italic'' within something bold''' or ''something '''bold''' within italic'', or ''even '''overlapping ''bold '''italic stuff. looks like This is bold-italic, or just something italic within something bold or something bold within italic, or even some overlapping bold italic stuff.

I know the examples suck, but I think they're clear enough.
