Grammar
Proper American grammar is to be used at all times. This requires the proper use of, but is not limited to the following: capitalization, punctuation, syntax, and sentence structure. For more information on proper American grammar, see Guide to Grammar and Writing.
Where more than one grammatical rule may apply, use the more formal followed by the more traditional. They tend to look better and are easier to read.
Capitalization
The following items are treated as proper nouns: ability abbreviations, abilities, creature subtypes, creature types, feat names, skill names, special ability names, and spell descriptors.
Any game mechanics not mentioned above are not proper nouns and follow standard capitalization rules for American grammar.
Italics
In addition to standard grammatical usage, italics are reserved for the names of spells, spell-like abilities, and abilities that mimic spells or spell-like abilities. Thus, a supernatural ability that mimics a spell would be italicized, but a supernatural ability that does not would use a normal typeface.
Bold
Bold typeface is not used in text blocks except for standard grammatical uses. It is used for table headers, column titles, row titles, and in various templates. If there is any doubt as to whether bold should be used, err on the side of caution and do not use it.

Abreviations
All other abbreviations must have periods, as per proper grammar, except where noted below:
- Abbreviations of abilities are capitalized and do not have periods.
- The abbreviation “PrC” is written as shown here without any periods.
Parenthetical Expressions
Use parenthetical expressions as grammar would indicate. Follow proper punctuation rules within parenthetical expressions, as well.
Brackets
Use brackets as grammar would indicate, except as follows:
- When refering to a creature or spell descriptor, it is acceptable to place it in brackets if it is not otherwise denoted as being a descriptor. It is appropriate to avoid using brackets in this manner if possible.

Spelling
Spelling counts. If you have any doubts as to how a word is spelt, visit Merrium-Webster Dictionary or use spell check. If a word has multiple spellings, use the American spelling; otherwise, any correct spelling is acceptable.
