Well, if online shopping isn't an option, then you'll need to track the books down at a store. Take a look in the phone book to see if you have some sort of specific gaming store nearby. Next, check to see if you can find a general hobby store (my first D&D books came from a shop that was mainly model trains). Comic book stores sometimes will dabble in gaming supplies. Lastly, check the regular bookstores in the area or at the local mall. The Waldenbooks near me usually has most of the basics. Even if they don't, if you ask they might be able to order them for you. All you need at that point, of course, is the cash.

I'm a bit confused here fang. In this topic you say you want to know where to get the books, but in the MMIII topic you say you have most of them and have that one on order. What gives?

You didn't just say SRD did you? Okay good. Most malls (big ones) have stores like WotC or other hobby and rpg-like games.

Touché. I remember when they first opened. they had gaming books and Fantasy novels galore, minatures, gaming software, lots of dice, DnD paraphernalia, and even a back room area to host games. then the rooms disappeared. then the novels and minis. then DnD was reduced to a lowly conrner with one shelf for some books and a rack for dice. you knew when DnD gamers entered because they'd walk past the Dancing Homer's and Metallic puzzles and head straight for that dark corner scanning for what has dissapeared this week. sigh...more nostalgia...

the wizards store by me closed about a year ago...not a huge loss...looks like its overpticed local comic store prices instead of overpriced 30 minute car ride prices :)...most comic stores rock at least the core rule books...unless they are just a hole int he wall...which mine is...but hey they hold my subscriptions for 6-8 months at a time with no word from me, you gotta admire that kind of loyalty

But enough about WoTC. if you want the books, or really anything for that matter, check out e-bay. chances are they'll have it. or check for some local gaming conventions and attend. find their shops and get yourself everything you'll ever need and some stuff you won't.

here's an interesting thought for you: no matter where or who you buy a DnD book from, all of them (all official ones anyway) were published by WoTC and thus in the end you still are purchasing from WoTC. I'm sure that's not what you meant, but if it was, that's my thought for the day.
