I have a new idea I will combine in one of my worlds (and if it will work than maybe even in other ones) and it go like that:
General spells are acualy feat you take that let you cast a type of spell instead of a certain spell whIch varies by the spell level. For example:
Fire burst
Requirements: energy substitute (fire), the ability to cast a fire spell of at least 3rd level.
The spell:
range: medium (100 feet + 10 feet per caster level)
area: a burst with a radius of 5 feet per spell level
components : v,s
save: reflex for half damage
spell resistance: yes
effect: all creatures in the area take 1d6 points of fire damage per caster level (up to a maximum of 5d6 + 5d6 for eatch 2 spell levels above 1).
Fire cone
Requirements: energy substitute (fire), the ability to cast a fire spell of at least 3rd level.
The spell:
range: a 10 feet per spell level cone
area: a cone of length of 10 feet per spell level
components : v,s
save: reflex for half damage
spell resistance: yes
effect: all creatures in the area take 1d6 points of fire damage per caster level (up to a maximum of 5d6 + 5d6 for eatch 2 spell levels above 1).
Of course the same general spells exists also for electricity cold and acid (even sonic exept that it deals only 1d4 point of sonic damage per caster level).
To gain access to a general spell you must spend a feat and meat with the requirements (these are acualy feat that let you learn a spell of each spell level). It is also a nice way to use spells higher than 9th level without metamagic feats. These feats are usefull especialy for sorcerers becouse a sorcerer that have the "fire burst" feat is able to create a burst of fire at any spell level without insreasing the casting time.
I would be glad to read your opinions about both the idea of general spells and the general spells that are presented as an example.
So what do you think?
