Do you have the 3.0 or the 3.5 MM?

So says the Manual of the Planes...

Silver Swords have a +3. Rare Silver Swords have a +5. You have to have the Exotic Weapon Profiencency for it or you have a -4 penalty on attack rolls, if you do have the feat, you can attempt to sever someone else's "Silver Cord"-it has the owner's AC, a hardness of 10, and 20 hitpoints. If you hit someone's Silver Cord they have to make a DC 13 fortitude save or be returned to their native plane; if it is severed, both astral and material forms die.

Caster Level: 11th; Prerequestites: Craft Magic Arms and Armour, creator must be githyanki; Market Price: 98,350 gp. Cost to Create: 49,000 gp + 3,920 XP.

No problem. I just don't see why they gave it a market value in the book. It isn't something you can really buy normally.

The place that you would have really wanted to look for the stats for a githyanki would have been the Psionics Handbook, no?

Also, they would have a market value because, even though they are rarely found on the PMP (Prime Material Plane), a githyanki would still have to buy one to use (even though some may be given to the better warriors).

More likely they would be given, it's a very structured and militaristic society. I doubt they would even have any use for money either, especially on the astral plane. Some things you just can't buy. Even if you have a billion dollars, the only way to get a hydrogen bomb is to steal one or trade something for it.

Money is the universal language. It would not matter where you live, money will still exist in some form. Unless, of course, they live in a utopian society, which I would highly doubt considering they are warlike and such. Also, if you had a billion dollars, you could make the [darned] bomb in lieu of trading or stealing for one. Also, when trading for something like an H-bomb, you would most likely use money or some form of it, i.e. jewels or other high value commodities.

Yeah i'd have to agree with STQH money does talk, there would be some type of currency in the different planes so lets say a githyanki kills an oppenent that has a duplicate sword he could take it over to the Prime Material Plane and sell it but i also have to agree with PlaneTouchedOne in that the large majority of the weapons would be awarded or given by a trainer or something like that. In the right circumstances you could buy one but i think it would be more of a problem trying to find someone willing to sell the sword then actually collecting the money

Well...being evil dosen't necessarily translate to being greedy for material wealth...their are many other forms of greed (like for power) that they would be more interested in, and they will kill or bargain at any length to get the swords back so that sort of implies that at least a githyanki would never sell a sword to a non-githyanki.

I don't know what version you all are using, but in 3.5 a silver sword also makes a struck opponent make a Fortitude save (DC 17) or lose any psionic abilities for 1d4 rounds.

If you will look at the dates that we posted, you will find that they were made a few months after the Expanded Psionics Handbook came out. I believe that none of us had access to the book yet and posted what we knew about the weapon from the sources that we had at hand. Also, PlaneTouchedOne was quoting the 3.0 Manual of the Planes.
