I would have to say that my favorite race for a character is the Doppleganger, the ability to change shape and read minds as a rogue seems like the super spy-type.

Woodelf and Human.

I basically like human because they fit fairly well in most campaigns, and broad range of options are usually avilable to them.

I like Woodelf simply because *I* think they are the coolest among all the races avilable to the players.

I tend to like humans for their versatility. I'm also fond of dwarves.

I'll play pretty much any of the standard PC races... it depends on my mood and the character type I have in mind. Once in a while, if there's a reason and the DM's blessing, I'll do something non-standard. Right now in Lady o's house campaign, I'm playing a full-blooded Black Orc (think LotR Uruk-Hai)... it works with the storyline and it's intended to be a short-term character until the party gets back to where my regular PC is at.

Generally speaking, I don't care for non-standard races unless the campaign is specifically designed for them. The doppleganger that one person voted for could be very unbalancing, depending on the type of game.

I like Gnomes. Something about being small and being able to cast big fireballs appeals to me. :P

You know what they say about Gnomes and the size of their Fireball's :D

I usually play Elves , though I have played all the standard races and quite a few non standard ones (Githyanki anyone , I was part of a war pary sent out to retrieve a Githyanki Sword , thats why the Githyanki thread's are rather ironic :D )

For years I only played elves or half elves, but in more recent times I've grown a fondness for dwarves. Dwarves are my current favorit along with litorians, a lion humanoid created by Monte Cook.

I've also played gnomes and humans.

A race from the Monster Manual that I've not had the chance to play, but would really love to is the Hound Archon.

Humans and halflings.

And I agree that doppelganger sounds very unbalancing.

I was gonna post this as the first reply, but didn't wanna mess the topic from the beginning, I waited for someone else to comment :)

Elves. I have an extreme fondness for elves. I don't think I've ever played anything aside from Elf, Half-Elf, or Human.

ok, that tears it. two campaigns from now my character will be a dwarf. Need to try something different.

It really matters how you play a doppleganger they can be unbalanced if you dont play them right...which is easy to do. My other favorite would have to be human, easy to use and works with just about everything.

Elves. Preferrably Dark Elves (good or evil).

We are the saviours to our kind...
We are the devout...
We are the enlightened...

I like humans, for their versatility. If I play a ranger or a druid, I like to go with an elf, though, because elves are pretty cool. Halflings can be good with certain classes, too (such as rogues or bards).

I don't really play with just one type of charactar. My race, class , and alignment go into immense thought of a bunch of good strategies. Like a dwarven fighter, or a half-orc barbarian, halfling rogue, etc.

But my favorite among everything is probly elves.

Though i'd like to play a kobold thier small (and thier just as good if not better tinkerers than gnomes :) )

sorry if this is hard to read im new at posting
