As a veteran player, I have played many charaters over the years. I've enjoyed playing them all, but a few of them I feel were just really awesome.

Also, being new to the DM/World Builder scene I'm constantly on the look out for cool and interesting npcs. I've found one at the resources section of this site, but thought it would be interesting to see what characters (or npcs) that others have played.

So, please post any note worthy pcs/npcs you've played. The ones that really stick out to you. It would be nice to see their stats/abilities, and general character descriptions along with a breif tale of any adventures/backgrounds that really stand out.

I need to do some digging (hopefully I still have a couple laying around), but plan on posting them when I have more time (I'm about to leave for work). As of right now, the only one I for sure have is the dwarf in my sig.

One of my all time favorites was Darius Grey , my very first DnD character. There was nothing very special about him stat wise and he was just a bog standard Fighter so I wont worry about his stats(Good thing too , I would have to search for his sheet , Which I still have but its in a Folder with all my other characters and the things buried somewhere in my spare room :D ).
He is the only character Ive ever seen that stated the game armed with a "Bardiche' , which for people that dont know , is a large Russian polearm that looks like the ugly love child of a Great Axe and a Halberd :o , Instead of getting better weapons , he spent money over the years getting magical versions made , because he love the weapon so much( because of how ugly the weapon looked , the DM used to do a moral check on the enemy when they saw me comeing at them with it :D )

He was also called the "Horsemaster" , not because of any incredible skill at handeling Horses , But because everytime he got a Horse , It ended up Dead and He would have to EAT it to survive
It happened the very first time I got a horse , had the horse for a couple of days , in the middle of nowhere and I get attacked , horse dies , I cut down the enemy horse with the Bardiche and kill it owner , realise afterward that i didnt have enough rations to get anywhere so I butcher and smoke my horse :D .
get back to civilisation , get a new horse , and the same thing happens
I lose 10 horses in a row in the same circumstances(Just shear bad luck , not any plan on the part of the DM).
Eventualy , I ended up with a Magnificent Heavy Warhorse , intelligent ,knew tricks and could fight alongside me.All in all a great horse , I can see what your thinking but your wrong.I guarded this horse took very precaution and it lasted longer than any horse I ever had before.1 day Darius and the other PC's get summoned by an archmage for a job interview(I actually tried to convince the DM to let me bring the Horse with me and park it in the mages Foyer  ).
Long story short , we end up being drugged and kidnapped and I never saw the STINKIN horse again

D
Its like the mouse in "The Green Mile" , it's too cute to kill and it just wont die

I would have to say that my favorite character was Kirthen of Argensdale. I made the name up myself and this character is dear to me because it is the first one i made without any help. Well I was thinking and got pissed over not having a prestige class that allows you to be a Knight. I could probly make a class like that but it would take time...well anyway his stats arent great and he is a fighter also. He had a bastard sword his attitude was basically "if it doesnt try to kill me im all right with it"

Not very an exciting character but i have some laughs while playing as him.

My favorite character have to be Vanion (Human Sorcerer). He had a really good background story.

This is basically a summary of the background story - Vanion's mother was a sorcerer named Arr'ra who warshipped Boccob, and because of her unnatural abilities she was basically an outcast. But after an illusionist named Krellion met his mother, he turned her life around. Since he was a people person, and everyone loved his silly illusions, people soon started to accept them as a normal family. Arr'ra also gave up casting spells so that she can fit in.

At age of 29, Arr'ra gave birth to Vanion and died while doing so because of internal bleeding. This death shocked Krellion greatly and he eventually became insane. So Vanion basically grew up on the dirty roads of Horndeep with no mother or father. His insane father was rarely around, and when he was in the village he was busy standing in village square urinating and stomping on a quarterstuff while cursing at Boccob.

But he didn't have trouble surviving because all the townfolks were nice enough to provide him with food and a place to stay once in a while. The trouble started when he turned 12. He started loosing control over his own body, his hands were creating things that he never saw out of thin air. He was often burning and electricuting himself while he was asleep. One night this sleeping spells burned a house down that he was staying in temprorarily. To make this huge story a little shorter, townfolks kicked him out, and he joined a thieve's guild which he found while travelling through a forest. Slowly he managed to control this powers, but he realized, people doesn't feel comfortable around him when they learn that he can cast spells. So he made sure to cast them in a certain way so that no one even suspects that he is casting a spell. Anyway soon the guild was under attack and he escaped and eventually joined up with an adventuring party (the players).

Now it was fun to play him, because for first few lvls most of the party members suspected him to be a rogue/ninja and not a sorcerer (which is what I wanted). He took toughness feat, he always "prayed" and during the whole duration of the battle to hide the fact that he is actually speaking arcane words once in while (this is where one of the guys figured out, because he was an arcane spell caster as well). He equipped himself with heavy crossbow, and spells like true strike and shield. He also carried bunch of blank scrolls with him, which he pretended to read when casting spells that are more visible (simple spells like light even). The DM really worked with me as well, he allowed me to roll ranged attacks with true strike in private, as well as Use Magical Device roll in private (which i didn't have but pretended to roll anyay to fool the other players).

His char description - Vanion is a pale looking humanoid. He is wearing uniform of black leather like clothings, loosely woven and stitched to allow full range of movement and maximum capacity for secreting tools and weapons. His face is also hidden by swaths of simililar dark material, but above this mask his wide and slanted pale grey eyes like a snake pressed into dough colored flesh are gleaming. His left ear is pierced with a single white gold earring. His hair is short and deep black, and it's neatly shaved at the back and near the ears. , There are several pouches sown into the leather belts on the front and as far as you can tell, some of them have spikey substance in them., You can see a medallion around his neck worn backward. Whatever is hanging on to the metallic string is hidden underneath the back of his uniform. You can also notice front part of a vicious looking crossbow and metallic head of a spiked mace sticking out from behind his back in an almost 45 degree angle.

That medallion had an archery target, which is the focus of the true strike spell. Later on all of them figured out that i was a sorcerer, but still it was just fun to play this guy (not to mention, the only other caster made scrolls, and only him and me could read them).

Also I picked shatter later on, which I had really really good luck with. So soon, the DM basically started to equip few of the monsters/enemies with magical weapons to stop the shattering (which ended up helping us, because we killed them anyway and took their weapons) .

My favorite caracters in chronological order, from oldest to newest:

Blackheart
Human
Pure Sorc

Sorcerors are by far my favorite class and this was my very first character when my group switched from 2e to 3e. The character had an amasing charisma (started with 18) and very good con (16), all his other stats we 9-13. I bought and traded for items that increased my charisma without worrying about any other stat or AC. At If I remember correctly my ac peaked at lvl 14 with an impressive 13 :P . Blackheart knew his strengths and physical confrontation was not one of them, he had slipers of spider climb wings of flying (bat wings) mirror image blurr and anything else that would keep him from getting hit. As I used to tell my DM "The trick is to having low AC is to avoid getting hit. On the flavor side of things this character always used rays spells (wpn focus ray) i like to think of him flying aroun or clinging on walls shooting rays out of his eyes and mouth. He also had an extreme fondness for golems construting many of them varying from tiny humunculi to massive siege golems. The greatest thing I ever did with this character was kill a Red Wyrm with ray of frost. half our party was dead and I was totaly out of spells otehr than cantrips, there was no point in trying to hit the [WOMBAT] thing with my +1 crossbow and i figured what the heck lets throw a ray at him... 2 hp later we have a dead dragon and a dm trying to figure out how he was going to explain this one.
He eventualy started the Order of The Black Heart and is even now searching for a way to become imortal.

Oslegoth The Red Plague
Human
Fighter9/Sorc1/Dragon Disciple (red) 10

This character was a two weapon fighting death machine his strength more than made up for the penalties of two weapon fighting and the damage was impressive. He used dual Bastard swords(Death, and Destruction) Eventualy this character was given a Red Gorgon as a mount for services to his god. The mount was named "The Harbinger of Sorrow". Everything he owned was red including his clothes armor hair anything he could dye or get magicaly changed. He liked to carry a large variety of wands with him at all times, the magic in his blod burned but he did not have the patience to master his power instead he let otehrs master it and but it into wands for his easy use. This was a powerful character and now that I have begun to DM I think I'm going to make him the general of an NPC army.

Sirius Weepingwound
Human
Druid 5, Shifter 10, Warshaper 5

This was my latest character and a very fun one to play. His stats were (in order) 9 11 12 14 11 12, I must say I was really rolling well that day  but the stats made him perfect for a shapeshifter. It was loads of fun playing him as in medium to high levels i could change into so many different things that pretty much anything became a joke. My favorite activity was turning in to a huge python and swallowing my dead enemies whole ... i never needed food but the dm made me roll innumerable fort saves vs disease :P

hope these help

My very first character was a human Paladin named Kalanos. Good guy. He had a Waraxe as his primary weapon, as well as a light crossbow and a Masterwork Longsword that he picked up from somewhere. He wore full-plate armor and had a large steel shield. I was so happy when I finally got him up to fifth level, because I was close to getting my magical mount; but then we ended that campaign.

I played another female Paladin later on that was pretty cool. She fought with a Katana. Unfortunately, she fell down a long shaft and was never heard from again.

My last character was a Fighter named Kiyoshi Akamai, who fought two-handed with a Katana and a Wakizashi. He was a very diplomatic character, as well. Unfortunately, he got knocked down to -3 hit points in a fight and subsequently bled to death, because the Cleric fled due to a fear spell.

My latest character I really like. He's a Fighter/Sorcerer that specializes in archery skills. He rides a pretty cool horse, too, but it's not magical like my Paladin's would've been.

Two characters immediately spring to mind...

FIGJAM Nutcrusher, a Gnome Scout (Thief) from 2nd Edition on Greyhawk.
FIGJAM would sing or hum tunes when walking, climbing or fighting. He was utterfly fearless and spontaneous. So yeah he had a dwarves name and a kenders personality :P I sang most of the songs (tom jones and elton john mostly) whenever he did, this was often amusing and usually massively in contrast to what was happening in the game.

the other is Cymrych Parene, Cavalier from Unearthed Arcana on Forgotten Realms. Cymrych and his horse darkstar travelled all around The North many times and survived over fifty attacks from giant packs over his career. Cymrych and his allies took on the Citadel of many arrows and later Hellgate Keep (with the help of the Flaming Fist). Cymrych was dedicated to the Oghma church and always fought to protect the innocent. He never drank, lied or cheated, and was throughly enjoyable to play.

My favorite was my first cleric, back in '82, his name was Tifting. He was the first character of mine that made it to level 10.
He and my best friend's Ranger changed the World.

My favourite character would have to be my character that i was allowed to create out of the savage species handbook. My character was a female Aranea, Rogue/deepwood sniper (a large shapshifting spider) Fangora Oriole "the Blackwidow". This character was great because she was so versetile and had a seductive personality (high charisma score helped 24), i used this personality trait and my female elve humanoid form to lure unsuspecting npcs to me where i would then kill them, therefore the "blackwidow". This character was great because the npcs and monster would be so supprised when i turned back into my spider form and defeated them in battle. My character also had a very high dexterity score 48, which made my character a pian in the arse to hit and an annoying adversary. My character also had a katana specialed forged for my natural form, where i could use four of my ten limbs for the katana putting a 2.5 strength bonus to my attack.
Also i liked playing the part of back up for my companions while they rushed into the head of battle, while i lurked about in the shadows picking off the enemy with my bow, whether it be from the ceiling, sides of buildings. cave roofs walls or up a tree or hanging from a web i spun.
This was also my first evil character which opened up a new horizon of exploring and eperimenting and also get to try different things that you couldn't as a good aligned character.

Helga Denchdottr. Half-orc Paladin. Decent Charisma and Intelligence scores for a human, let alone a half-orc. And if that isn't quirky enough, just being a half-orc paladin, she also has a very odd delusion...

She's somehow under the distinct impression that she's an attractive male human (specifically, a stereotypical bishounen).

She's chivalrous even more than most paladins, and extremely polite no matter with whom she deals. She's a bit mysterious, in a way that would make a male human a complete heartthrob, but is merely comical on Helga. And of course, she tries her best to remain honorable and pure... she doesn't need a whole lot of help with chastity, though.

Just picture a busty, six-foot-four half-orc woman in a breastplate charging over a hill and swinging a greatsword, shouting "Fear not, fair maiden!"

Fun.

Oh, and we cannot forget Duchess Ellani, my second-favorite character! She's a gnome rogue/illusionist/Arcane Trickster.

Her full name, of which I can only remember some, takes up a whole sheet of paper, handwritten (Duchess Ellani Sneakcheese Fwishten Rockknock Quockelum Madfingers Hoxy Morrin Rebulminux...), and near the end, contains some names that are there merely for comic value (Pikachu... Xerox... Pepto-Bismol). And that isn't even all of her name on the sheet of paper: it's just what she can remember offhand. Her name is so long that there's a 25% chance that any name of a creature, NPC, or even PC is also one of Ellani's names.

That's not all Ellani has to her, though. Ellani is highly Chaotic Neutral. Some of her favorite tricks are:

-Ghost Sound on someone making an important speech, to make it seem like they flub their words or produce a loud bodily fuction
-Invisibility on people's clothes
-Wall of Force in an important doorway or the middle of a thoroughfare
-Illusions that make potholes invisible
-Mage Hand... so many uses!

Of course, she Silences and Stills these whenever she can, and perhaps Quickens them, so nobody can tell it's her doing it. For Invisibility and other spells with a range of Touch, she'll Silence and Still them, then "accidentally" bump into someone, or send her familiar (a raven named Yorien) to deliver it.

She's also in posession of an intelligent +1 Shock Dagger named Joybuzzer. Joybuzzer is snide, even more so than Ellani herself, and lives to wreak havoc.

My favorite D&D Character so far would have to be Korin Haedrach.

He's a Dwarven Cleric of Moradin, Chaotic Good, with a thirst for battle, and killing orcs, but also a fair share of wisdom. (And not just the stat.) - He's not the most interesting character, but EVERY group needs a dwarf! Currently, he's level 13.
