I'm most likely going to hear "no" as the answer for this. The idea can be applied to any casting class that doesn't get access to 9th-level spells... Bards, Rangers, Spellthieves, Hexblades... The list goes on.
Anyway, how about "Improved Spell Capacity"?
If you take this feat enough, given your party was epic enough to allow it, and give your Paladin or other class of choice the ability to cast (hypothetical) 9th-level spells, such as a Quickened and Extended Holy Sword, would that character meet the prerequisites for Epic Spellcasting, assuming he had the correct amount of Knowledge and Spellcraft?
I'm guessing it doesn't, but hey RAW can be wonky.
If this doesn't work, you could always take that Pally down Divine Crusader and bypass the whole problem...

Well, strictly speaking Improved Spell Capacity only requires you to have the maximum spell level in at least one spellcasting class. And the feat does specify that you gain "one spell slot per day of any level up to one level higher than the highest-level spell the character can already cast in a particular class." Thus, from a strict interpretation of the text, a Paladin that took this feat five times would, in fact, qualify for Epic Spellcasting (provided they also had sufficient ranks in Spellcraft and Knowledge-religion).
Granted, most of the extra spell slots would go to waste unless the Paladin has a handful of metamagic feats (a rare sight on a Paladin, but not out of the question). But the look on a party's face when you tell them that the Paladin they're facing is whipping out epic spells would be priceless.

It works. Hard to do, long, wonky, underpowered, silly even, but it works.
Cleric's are far better at the holy warrior role anyways, so if you were to decide NOT to allow it, base it on flavor reasons- not power.

I'm prepared to passionately argue this point until nothing makes sense anymore!- RM

Heh. Or remove the cleric entirely like I did. Hello, reason to play Paladin and/or Favored Soul.

So very true. Yeah, I definitely agree with both Red and Dthclaw on this. It is entirely plausible, but not the best make ever. Though, depending on the character of the paladin, it might be perfectly logical and create a very interesting character.
