So I was watching a show last night on the weapons of ancient China, and i foudn myself thinking about my campaign world, Elyria. See, the thing is, whether anyone wanted to realize this or not, Elyria is loosely a mix of chinese/asian stuff and european stuff, so when I saw all of these shiny things, I thought to myself, "Wow. I could put that stuff in and be justified in doing so. Moreso, this is some really cool stuff." So I wanted to ask the people here their opinions of these things. I'd like to get some ideas for how to stat them out as well as potential in-game impact. By in game impact, I mean predominantly the cultural impact on the world more than the mechanical impact.

So here's the list of stuff and brief rundowns for all the things I yoinked:

Flamethrower - Yup, gouts of flame 60 feet long. Fun stuff. :dancingbanana:
Tripple Crossbow - Mobile balista with a range of over a mile; 10 man team to fire.
Whirlwind Catapult - Ultra-light mobile man-powered catapult. Short range; fast rate of fire; accurate; 10-man team
Big-[CHAIR] Siege Tower - Yeah. Freakin Huge.
Knife Cart - Cart with rows of knives sticking out of the front of it. Basically used as mobile razor wire.
Nest Cart - Imagine an elevator on wheels used as a mobile scouting post.
Handcannon - Just what it says.
Cannon - Fires balls of lead at high speeds.
Bomb - I imagine a variety of these can be devised.
Landmine - Uses a flint and steel trigger tied to a buried preasure plate and blasts shrapnel straight up. Could conceivably just make a really big boom.
High Intensity Crossbow - Maximum range of 300 yards and force of 387 magnum.
Crossbow Loaded With Feet - Same as above but with a 500 yard maximum range.
Rockets - Bottle rocket on an arrow.
Rocket Cart - grid of at least 100 rockets that can be lit simultaneously with a single fuse

These are all real weapons that were developed no later than about 1,100 A.D. which puts them in the generally accepted DnD timeframe. They are also all mundane, though I am sure creatire applications of magic could create even more scary contraptions. Either way, I figure I'll start statting this stuff out and see what everyone has to say. I'm sort of curious. Also bare in mind that magic levels will range from moderately low magic to high-magic empires with airships.

It's your campaign setting, if you think it adds to the atmosphere you're going for, go for it.

As for the items you mentioned, most of them just need special feats rather than stats, since the DMG has stats for handcannons and cannons and such. More exotic seige weapons like the ballistas mentioned just need special rules.

The flamethrower is self explainatory, just take a halfdragons breath weapon or something. The rockets are slightly different, they usually had little to no explosive force, they could do minimal damage, light things on fire, and sometimes blind people.

But don't take my words as meaning anything, my mind is stuck in 300 BC right now.

Just don't forget that this is a world of magic. When you remember the effects of magic enchantment, things become slightly more crazy.

Like, most of these things would do your average weapon damage- enough to kill your average human.

Then take something fairly harmless like a rocket cart- normally used for psychological effect than damage- then enchant the rockets with the "Slaying" property. Or the wounding property. Hell, just enchant the cart. A rocket cart of "Fiery Burst" would be crazy.

The Cross-bow ranges would need to be adjusted to D&D standards. That foot loaded crossbow only has half the max range of your D&D heavy crossbow.

Be sure to look in hero's of battle. They have a lot of stuff on magical seige weapons and other weapons of war.
I'm prepared to passionately argue this point until nothing makes sense anymore!- RM

Who is to judge what is right and what is wrong? Great and powerful foes surround us; unknown miscreants gnaw at us from within. We are threatened with total annihilation. In days such as these we can afford no luxury of morality.

Thanks for the advice. I forgot a rocket cart of firey burst and the like. Mind you, I think most of these things would be the realm of governments and nations, that is something to consider.

Only one thing, though. A normal heavy crossbow has a maximum range of 1,200 feet. The foot-loaded crossbow has a range of 1,500 ft. Those crossbows are a bit of a step up form dnd crossbows, but would cost significantly more. I'll probably BS something about higher draw strength but using a pully system to compensate or some such. Just make it a little more fantasy-ish than just a "better crossbow".

I just had a thought but it escaped. If I catch it, I'll post it. Oh well. Wait! Look! Shiiiiny!

Bump!

Here's the initial stuff. Some of it looks a little funny and might get adjusted, but I think the explosive stuff si prohibitively expensive to use in large quantities, unless you're one very rich person.
