How's a pre-set stat block work?

Can't find it in dmg.

I ended up doing the buy wrong, and the DM never corrected me. I've since learned how to do it, and of course there was no malice or subterfuge on my part, just innoncent mistakes. I've since learned my mistake, and go with 4d6 drop lowest, when DMing

Point buy is good, but I do prefer rolling.

A pre set statblock works like this

18, 16, 14, 10, 9, 8 Total points: 35, Total Modifier: +7
17, 15, 14, 14, 10, 8 Total points: 35, Total Modifier: +8
16, 16, 14, 12, 11, 10 Total points: 35, Total Modifier: +9
You start with a set number of points or something akin to that and make three or four lines of stats (players arrange how they wish) and you note the total of the modifiers and points used on a line. This one was for a modual I ran ( I felt like it and it was free). I wanted higher powered chars and I got them. The beauty is that you know how powerful your PCs will be immeidiately and no one will have the "suck stats" you can also go as far as to state what HP will be (100%, or 75% of max.). I admit, it takes something away from the character creation part of D&D, I feel as a player I would prefer to roll dice, but when DMing, its so much easier and simpler. Plus, if you have a problem with cheaters like some Gamemasta's do.... It tends to fix it at the get-go.

I like the buy method. It's quicker and I never have to hear one of my players say "that was my practice roll" " that was my 3rd practice roll" or "that was my 7th practice roll"

And mine is blacxthornE. Pleased to meet you, and let's call it even.
I edited the previous post, your name should be okay now.

Here's the problem with the point system. a fighter character could pump up his fighting abilities will neglecting his other abilities. A character with an 18 Str and a 6 Cha is beneficial as a fighter, but as a character, think of the roleplaying aspects of the Cha 6 player. But if this happens, as the DM play on it, make the extremes definable. Just as the slaying power of an 18 Str character is beneficial, make sure that the 6 Cha is equally as detremental in gameplay.

There are alternative rolls to 4d6 (drop lowest) which include:

Average characters: 3d6 (no drops)
Strong characters: 5d6 (drop lowest 2)

And I'm working on a 3d10 (drop middle), which I'm still testing... The reroll conditions I will decide after a hundred experiments. I am at about 30 now.

I will post the details after I'm done.

No problem really. Every attribute must have at least "one" point spent on it. So the minimum score for any of my PC is 9.
