Good grief...

If you're a vampire, you're toast the instant you step into sunlight under released character options. Period. There is a feat in Libris Mortis for undead with vulnerability to the sun that allows them to operate for a handful of rounds before going up in a puff of smoke. Your DM might cook up something more protective as a feat or class feature, but don't hold your breath unless you have a DM that likes rampant character power.

Otherwise, invest heavily in learning the darkness line of spells and better hope your enemies don't know/use daylight, dispel magic, turn undead...

Like Dthclaw said, you're a marshmellow in a blast furnace if you set foot in sunlight. The only rules I know of that would change that are from the Ravenloft setting, but even those won't be applicable to you for about 200 years. In other words, prepare for one of a few things to happen (aka, how I would handle a player who tried to become a vampire):

1 - DM takes your PC and makes it into [b]hisp/b] NPC.
2 - You unexpentently find yourself in the sun, via teleport other, or a collapsing roof.
3 - When you are made into a vampire, your maker refuses to release you from his bond, so you are nothing less than a slave to his will. (I like this option, because then I can make you do things you would really not want to do, like kill your wife/family/puppy)
4 - You find yourself being thrown in a river with many lead weights around yoru belt.
5 - Some half-cocked party of adventurers decides to bag themselves one of dem der neck-biters.
6 - Some half-cocked evil party decides to go enslave themselves one of dem der neck-biters.

Do you get my point yet?

what about counts? i mean isn't there a way to turn vampire by killing the vampire and drinking his blood (if there is any left) or cut his head of and eat his brain.....oh i forgot to mention that i eat my slained enemies hearts and sometimes brains...

my character has so far eaten:

1) wizards, female, half-elf
2) displacer beast (pack leader), male(still wondering if magical beasts give any abilities if eaten)
3) one succubus( the demi-god of the group knocked her head off.(he eat something to give him temp. demi abilities. dont ask iam still wondering why the DM did this.))

iam just wondering so if i can get a clean shot then i think will try it out but if i cant....well i'll let ya'll know

In standard D&D, eating/drinking/assimilating/etc don't give ya no benifit other than bein weird :P

There's a half vampire template around somewhere. They can go out in teh sun. Less powerful, but you dont risk being burninated alive.

but I'm not going to get into the logistics of becoming a half vampire.

I'd generally not have a problem if the PC wanted to be a vampire, just as long as he understands the drawbacks
I'm prepared to passionately argue this point until nothing makes sense anymore!- RM

Yeah, like Red said, there are no rules (not even in Ravenloft) for gaining new abilities through eating of/feeding on other creatures.

Neither the Half-Vampire nor Katane templates grant any abilities close to that of a full vampire. They do not suffer the same weaknesses, but they have fewer advantages either.

You pretty much have no options under any published rule sets. And if your DM isn't making it an option, you're completely screwed for playing a daywalker type.

well, i was just wondering considering the paladin eat a amulet than made him into a demi-god for one day and after the day he just gets +5 to everything.

i'd figured if he could eat metal and get that then i figured i could do the same with the displacer lord....that would be sweet if i could gain the displacer ability.

Eat a hunk of metal and gain Deific powers...? Man, if it were that easy, I would have enslaved the world a long time ago with my uncalculable powers. None could stand before me!

Er... I've eaten some strange things before. Don't mind me...

The only thing I've ever seen that gains any benefit from eating something from someone else is the Illithid Savant, which is a mind flayer that gains powers from the brains he eats. Other than that, the only way I can see gaining power from consuming something would be if it was suppose to be consumed. Did the amulet you mentioned do anything when worn?

But back on topic.

Daywalking vampires = no. There's really no way around that, at least until someone makes a vampire or vampire-like template that allows them to do that. In all honesty, my campaign setting does have some daywalking vampires, though they generally weaker than their night-only bretheren. You want to overcome a weakness, you gotta pay up.

When I finish it, I'll post the template on the Wiki. It could be a while, though.

it didnt do jack squat when worn. but the only thing we have works when worn is the gate to the ninth hell. which i have plus off i need to fight a way to become a shadowdancer/assasian so at least then when the amulet turns him into a blood-thirsty demon.

also for the record....i have been dragging scared, whinning female rogue by the hair or hand threw hell....litterally threw hell dude! iam thinking about selling her or trade her to the drow...i think they would like me considering i take the higher-ups to hell for a little vacation. plus i was knighted as a dark knight just recently from my character sheet.
