right now iam in confusing spot. iam a rogue that cant think of what to level into:

1) i was thinking about getting some shadow caster levels but then again they dont really help anything at all.

2)just stick to rogue till lv.5 and go assasian and shadowcaster.

3)just eat the heart and brains of the displacer beast my group killed. i dont know if i will gain anything from it but if anyone knows what happens when you eat the organs of a magical beast please tell me cause my DM still looks at me weird.

well, as a player of rogues and other such esoteric classes in the past and present, I would just give you this advice: Think about your character, and their personality. If they have good physical stats, then possibly more combat or stealth orientated classes (such as continuing into assassin or shadowdancer), but if you have good mental stats, then going into a spellcasting class might help you. It all comes down to what you want to do with your character.
Hope this was some help.
Oh, and generally speaking, unless you have some odd house rules, eating bits of creatures doesn't do you any good...

I wish more people on these boards would give this advice. DnD is not a game you win by making the most invincible characters. I've seen a player have his PC commit suicide because it was the thing his PC would do. DnD is about roleplaying, so go with that. Get into character and decide what you would do if you were the PC. Incidentally, it is often the charcater with the worst hinderances that survives the longest because they learn to use their strengths and minimize their weaknesses in the way they act. Stacked characters rarely learn these skills and when they face a foe that is a real challenge for them, they often cannot figure out how to survive.

Incidentally, welcome back, Shadowkami! Stick around and see what's been up in your absense. There are at least two new settings brewing, both with their own spins on dnd. Dthclaw is also running a pbp game set in his Teltesh setting. So far, it's really fun.

Thanks, i'm glad that i'm still remembered, I will have to check out what's new...
Anyway, yeah, I discovered that it is far more satisfying actually playing a character than a set of stats :P

Dude, seriously... there are no mechanics for gaining powers like that from eating organs unless you're an Illithid Savant. NONE. IN ANY D&D BOOK.

As for your sadism regarding the slaughter of innocents... really don't need to know that kind of stuff. You might find it fun; I suspect I'm not the only one, however, that finds it sick.

Dthclaw is correct on two counts, particularly the first. There is no precident for obtaining powers by eating organs. If you got anything from it, you should thank your DM. I just hope he keeps it balanced or else yoru group will fly apart like an unbalanced turbine.

I second that... well, third it anyway...

But seriously, gaining from eating stuff... thats just WEIRD... I have never met a DM who would let anyone get away with that... I mean... immunity to ranged attacks? it takes about four feats, including one epic feat to get that normally, and 5 epic feats to get 50% permanent concealment...

I think it was this guy who inspired me to make Thjostolf, the guy who actually does get stuff by eating people. But, of course, he IS an illithid savant, and a soul eater, and has feats selected for that specific end. But I digress.

Shadowkami said it best, there. Immunity to ranged and 50% concealment for eating something? Jeez. If it were that easy, my buddy Hunter would be a God about now. If your DM allowed that, then I suspect somewhere in the near future, he's going to throw something really big at you.

Yeah, the only way I could see that ever happening would be if your DM wanted you to use those abilitys for a specific purpose, then lose them, but giving a magic item would be far more likely for this sort of purpose.

Just remember this: If he let you do it, his monsters are allowed to do that and more. If he's allowing this, he's either an idiot or he's about to go for a TPK.

Erm... I am not entierly sure that killing random people whenever the opportunity presents itself is NEUTRAL evil, that seems more chaotic to me... and I have never lost any abilities from eating bad seafood, but on the other hand, I have never gained any either...

As a side note, prodigy is spelt as I just spelled it. Sorry, i'm just pedantic about spelling

I'm kinda getting the impression he isn't even reading the responses, just posting. I also suspect that much like certain other members he is similarly immune to Grammar Nazisim.
