I recently uploaded my online chat program made for D&D to the resources of the site. All the people who have signed up so far have said that they have never seen anything like it and love the program. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of an online chat program devoted to just D&D?

nope, can't say as I have and I've seen most all of them. They're more generic RPG with the ability to sort of fit D&D into it but not perfectly. I'm glad to see a D&D implementation, though hopefully I'll never have to use it (I've got a great in-person group I play with).

My oh my. I must say I absolutely love it. It's brilliant. The only thing that I would like to see added would be a whiteboard area. I think that would be very useful.

Thanks for the feedback. Im sure there must be another dedicated D&D chat online somewhere.

Funny you say about the whiteboard Rintaran, thats one of the major updates in the next version. Shouldn't be long now :D

Excellent. I have a number of friends who will be eagerly awaiting it. We have been thinking of starting an online game now for quite some time. We were merely awaiting a utility that would server our purpose best. Many thanks.

Yo. I found a couple little tweaks that needs to be addressed. Currently, players are unable to perform actions. I think it would be a good improvement if they had access to the Action Text command. I would also like to see the ability to save a log of the chat and for the chat to go full screen.

Hi Rintaran, thanks for the suggestions :) The Action Text function was originally saved for the use of DM's only. It wont be too hard to make this a global command, this could also move with the Error Text option to make it so that everyone could use them. The thing is was that I created this program a few months ago now not having played D&D atall, not even reading any of the books. I was just going by what the people on my site wanted in a chat program . And it seems to have worked out ok for the moment. Just needs some minor tweaks. I should have the whiteboard done in about a month or so, ive got a lot of work on at the moment. Sorry if this stops any of your game plans. Ill try and get it done ASAP :D

It's no problem at all Snakeage. A few friends and I were just testing it out the other day. There is one more question that eventually came up, and through testing of everything we could think of it has remained. What's the use of the allow observer's option? As far as we could tell, it didn't do anything.

Mika, here is the download link,
Tri Axe Dungeons & Dragons Chat
The chat program is part of the resources here at DnDResources but I added the link into here for your convenience :)

Rintaran;
The observers option is part of the new version that was half included in this version, not sure why i did that  But as for now it doesnt do anything, when the next version is done it will allow people to watch over a game while people are playing. Thought it might be a useful feature, a few people were asking for it in previous versions.

Ok, sweet. We were just wondering why a non-functioning function was there. Sounds like it'll be great. Let me know when your next version is ready. :)

Any chance you'll convert this to a format useable on linux? Or have someone port it? I like the looks of your application, but only have linux servers to host services from.

I hope to make a Linux version in C++ soon once I have learnt it. Should be a while but what the hell. You could always run the current version under WINE.

Thanks for the reply. Wine doesn't run well in the server environment. We may have a developer that plays in our gaming group, interested in porting something like this. Would you be willing to let him look at your source? He could do it from scratch, but if he doesn't have to. I'm still working him to see if he is interested in starting a project like this.(He's also a developer for the company I work at.)

The chat program we are using on our home board, is kind of hokey if you know what I mean.

Have a good one.

Hey GW, thanks for the offer but I would prefer to do it myself. Sorry if this means a big delay. But it will help me out a lot in learning C++, i need a project which wont take too long to sort out and get running. Ill try and remember to let you know once I have got something up and working!
