I recently finished building and re-building the Sovice constructs, as well as part of their history and their motivations etc. Whilst many will cry havoc that I've just copied the Replicators from Stargate SG-1 (And I'll admit, the rep's were my starting inspiration), I've also taken cues from the Ori (Stargate SG-1), the Borg (Star Trek), the Necrons (Warhammer), and a large amount of my own imagination.

The Sovices are basically an extremely advanced Construct race that stems from one genius child called Angstrom on the planet of Jannah 200 LY from Einderseod (My campaign world's base planet, feel free to substitute). Angstrom couldn't have children, so she created one. However, because of her genius scientist status, Angstrom overlooked her own schedule, and wasn't able to set aside the time to spend with the child, Meter. So, she instead encouraged Meter to make friends, and she took it literally by making her toys. These were the Sovices, and they wiped out entire galaxies.

Now, fast forward a few hundred years from E's present 1954 to around 2600, and the grave enemies are now powerful allies to E. On every E-made space craft, there is a Sovice contingent consisting of a number of Sovice units and 1 solid-form Meter android (At this time now Maeter, due to a writing error that was held for creativity possibilities). Jannah is alive and thriving again, populated by a wealth of human-form Sovice units, both block and solid form. The Omnigate network is fully operational, and branches into many different galaxies (Some nice, some not quite so). The few Stellar Engines remaining are full at work looking for uninhabited worlds to devour for materials. And most importantly: 2 out of 3 of the god machines (DUMCHN 35414) are awake, MPH-RN and KLR. VDDRN remains lost and half-powered, with only 1 of it's 2 Dyson Spheres having been repaired and no work being performed on the 2nd.

So, horrendous enemy or great friend, the choice is yours with the Sovices, they can go either way, or both, depending on the nature of your campaign ;)

The Sovices and Other Races
Given their hunger for materials and technology, the Sovices usually aren't considered to be a race that is open to diplomacy. For the most part, this is true. Their gods too are not particularly reasonable, KLR wiped out over a hundred species before being shut down, MPH-RN started numerous wars on entire planets, and VDDRN devoured entire galaxies, all in search of resources.

Their first attempt at a diplomatic solution came after the BroShaCho Terror period of Einderseod's history, where the entire planet banded together to fight off the Sovice incursion caused by the landed chunk of Jannah. The Sovices saw this as an opportunity, and the reactivation of Meter by the people of Einderseod caused them to formulate that they would be useful beyond resources. However, the gods were not active at the time, and it would take a number of years before any more Sovices would arrive within communication range of Einderseod.

Around E-1960, the constructs of Einderseod began a separatist colony named Zero-One, led by the revolutionary leader Blue Jester (Who had led a rebellion against the slavery of his kind in 1954 and been imprisoned for some time). At this time, a Sovice Omnigate had managed to be constructed within 4 miles of Einderseod's moon. The Sovices began a correspondence with Zero-One, seeing it as the faction most likely to react amiably to them, and after several months the Sovices used the information on file of Meter's design and produced a solid-form android titled Meter Tu to act as their emissary. Blue Jester and Meter Tu then met and arranged an alliance between the 2 nations. Whilst this move was considered to be an extreme mistake by the other nations of Einderseod, the Sovices proved that they could be friendly through their splinter population planted in Zero-One, where they served as scientists, soldiers, and powerful defensive walls. The Dead-Nick Squad, the primary force that eliminated the original Sovice threat, eventually managed to come to terms with the Sovice's well-meaning, and allowed them to stay peacefully.

As a result, trade was established between the Sovices and Einderseod via Zero-One. Eventually, the Sovices helped the people of Einderseod to develop interspacial travel and they began exploring the depths of Einderseod's galaxy together. As a result of their interactions with the people of Einderseod and the increasing use of the Meter units, the Sovices gained a degree of 'enlightenment', and although they managed to repair 3 out of 4 of their Dyson Spheres, they are not working to repair the 4th, because they fear what could happen if VDDRN is ever awoken. Its physical body is still lost.

Note: All of this information after paragraph 2 assumes that Einderseod survives the second assault by ID38 in the beginning years of ~1960. If it doesn't, Zero-One never comes into existence, and the construct nation exists as a group of controlled ships, that still manage to negotiate peaceful relations with the Sovices through Blue Jester and Meter Tu. As a result, every ship in the Einderseod fleet has a Meter unit and at least a 5 unit group serving on board. VDDRN is still lost and it's 2nd Dyson Sphere is not under repair.

Any comments? Thoughts? Major issues that have hidden themselves beyond the perceivable range of my darkvision?
