It depends. what age are the children?

I think good general rules for GMing a game with elementary age children would be about the same as teaching them in a class setting.
  • Keep Sessions Short (children have less attention span than adults, usually)
  • Keep goals simple and understandable. If the adventure is longer, cut it down into portions with attainable goals.
  • Introduce rules slowly. tell them only the rules they'll need to know to get the job done. Most children learn best by creative repetition, and will eventually be able to master most rules.
  • Be creative in your descriptions, and good with the differentiation in NPC voices. Act like a storyteller. Add movement and props if possible.
  • Encourage roleplaying to the fullest extent, even if you're bending the rules to accommodate what they're suggesting. Children love to pretend.
  • (Optional) I'd say keep the violence to a minimum. Take the idea from many of today's children's cartoons, where the things that are destroyed in combat are not living creatures. Nonlethal combat or 'killing' of easy versions of constructs such as golems would, IMHO, be more appropriate for elementary-age children.

And it seems Lady thought the other way, so can you clear my mind and tell me what wore you asking

Well sorta both would be helpful. My game has children as players. The children want to be children as characters in the game. So help would be helpful.

Well, i think lady cover the player part, and im very sure wen she reads your reply she will answer to the other part too, * betwen us, i think she has more experience in this game than me you and alot of the people on these forums put together, she must be and Epic Player, LOL * , from here i can only say bring on the puzzles, try to make it fun at all cost ( they tend to lose focus wen they are not having fun, and that could be dangerous, dont look at me like that!, ok, you caught me im scared of children, there, are you happy now, those big eyes, those big cheecks, that inocent look, darn, im not gonna sleep tonight) throw them into a nice forest, make them talk to animals, make them defeat big people, dont doit bloody, they may grow and be like me *shakes in fear*, give them silly magic items like bags of tricks and capes of invisibilitis and stuff like that, if they dont exist make them. OH and one last thing, dont give them funny ideas, you dont want a little children to go later and grab a kitchen knife to play. Good luck with the small ones

One minor little point... exactly how old are the 'children' we're speaking of? From my point of view (it's not by much, but I am the oldest member of Lady's house group) anyone who's in their mid-teens could easily be considered children; I think we can all agree that a 14 year old is going to be interested in and able to handle a lot more than, say, an 8 year old.

And, for the record, while our dearest Lady o' D is certainly capable of playing (and playing well) in an epic level game, her highest level regular character that I know of is only about level 12 or so. We play in a relatively low exp game, so growth is slow... it really makes leveling a special event, though. You just need to make sure she's been able to get a nap earlier in the day of a game night and keep her supplied with her caffeine of choice.
