Ah, I remember this post...

Since I am a believer in balance, I'll post the biggest problem I've found with the 3.5 rules, since I already posted one of the things I like about them.

Two words: Weapon sizes.

This has to be the most idiotic idea that the otherwise brilliant minds at WotC have ever come up with. I understand why they did it; I just don't understand how anyone with even the slightest grounding in logic could use these rules and not have an aneurysm.

"Let's take all the weapons and vary them in size so that even the halfling fighter can use a greatsword." Sure, it's a nice idea, but think about it. The reason a greatsword is a greatsword is because it's a long, heavy blade that can be swung by a character to do some serious damage. You make it shorter and lighter and guess what? No matter what you call it, it's not a greatsword anymore.

What bends the fabric of reality even worse are the reach weapons. By necessity, a Small longspear will have to be, duh, smaller. This means a decrease in weight, girth, and length. So what these wonderful people are trying to tell me is that a halfling, who is half the height of my human, can utilize a spear that is shorter than mine, and still get 10 feet of reach! The only thing he sacrifices is damage potential. Uh uh. Ain't happening. I realize this is a fantasy game, but this is just carrying things into the ridiculous. If you want reach, don't play a shortie; it's just that simple.

Don't even get me started on the 3.5 versions of the darkness and [/i]deeper darkness[/i] spells... <_<

Needless to say, I'm not playing by full 3.5 rules...probably closer to 3.25 or 3.3...
