Thought I'd put up some info related to gaming styles, since it was brought up in another thread.

First, here's a description of the five different types as defined by Robin Laws.

And a quiz to see where you fall in the spectrum of the five types. I threw my results into my sig; might be interesting if everyone else did, too.

And lastly, here's a link to some of the market research results which WotC got when designing the 3rd edition. The basic idea was to try and make a game that had a little something for everyone.

Enjoy.

Here you go. Took it again, the top two flipped from when I first took it long ago...

Method Actor 100%
Storyteller 92%
Tactician 50%
Specialist 42%
Casual Gamer 42%
Power Gamer 33%
Butt-kicker 8%

I also like the idea of placing it in our siggy's. It gives a quick idea of the types of games we enjoy.

I dunno, somehow since I know a guy who's proud of being the master of breakage I don't like such a high power-gamer score. I could never come up with his kind of breaking. I'm more of a storyteller, even though it put that equal, probably by misinterpreting what I meant by using the rules to support my character design.

Hmm....Looks like Rin and I have the same priorities, but I guess I enjoy my number crunching a bit more. :P

Method Actor: 100%
Story Teller: 92%
Tactitian: 83%
Specialist: 75%
Power Gamer: 58%
Butt kicker: 33%
Casual Gamer: 0%

I kinda figured the first three, specialist cought me off-gaurd, but I guess I do have a love for mage-types. Power Gamer I can kinda understand, and you know thats true if you've ever sat through a Character Creation session with me. Butt Kicker? Meh. As for casual gamer, I always knew I was [FLOPPING] hard-core!

I'm surprised butt-kicker made fourth... or that power-gamer was above casual-gamer.

Here be I!

Butt-Kicker: 83%
Storyteller: 83%
Tactician: 75%
Method Actor: 75%
Specialist: 58%
Power Gamer: 42%
Casual Gamer: 33%

I can pretty much understand the numbers... Except that it adds up to 449%, but it's not important. I like heavy story that demands some role-play and problems that require some brains, but I like to know that when it all comes down to it, the big evil badguy and his minions will be beaten bloody. I power game only unconsciously, and I don't really have anyone I can "casually game" with.

Yeah, I'm not nearly as hardcore as Red.
