Hmmm... well, comparing them to Elves:

  • Immunity to magic sleep effects
  • +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects.
  • Low-Light Vision
  • Martial Weapon Proficiencies (4 weapons)
  • +2 racial bonus 3 skills

Your guys so far:
  • +2 racial bonus on 4 skills

Low-light vision might not be bad, tieing into the feline aspect of the race. I'm tempted to take the whole cat thing a little further, and maybe add something like Catfall (can treat any fall as if it were 10' shorter), but you may not want to go that direction.

The magic "null" idea - rather than a class restriction, it could be a save bonus of some type, like the elves? Based on the race's history, would there be any particular school they might get a bonus against, or even narrower spell type they are immune to?

Ooo... as master craftsmen, how about a +2 on saving throw against magical effects originating from items (or even +4, as this will be a fairly rare save.)

Now I am quite sure it is ballanced enough race and it is ready to playtest.
I wish only only happiness, good luck and health to all of you.

It's balanced, though I can't say that it doesn't seem a tad flavourless as it is. But then, fluff can always be added later eh?

Yeah, the flavor is coming, along with a couple more little things that shouldn't throw off the balance too much. Trying to add that little "oomph" is difficult.

Yeah, they still need a little something else.

Super & Rin - even though the stat bonuses are balanced, do you think just the +2 to four skills is on par with the abilities of the core races? I think these guys are a little weak, still.

Maybe if they got one of the feats from the Eberron CS that affect item creation? The three that I can recall off the top of my head: 1- Reduce item cost for purposes of creation cost; 2- Reduce item cost for purposes of XP cost; 3- Reduce item cost for purposes of time to create.

Maybe give them a choice between one of the three as a racial bonus feat?

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at those feats. I think one of them could definitely add a bit to the race. As for a little extra, one of the things I was thinking was adding low-light vision and bumping their base speed to 40 to reflect the feline heritage. Opinions?

That would be what I did for the Ashari in my campaign.

Updated original post with the final version of the Faldirin. I know it's been awhile, but real life intervened, and I had to put a lot of stuff on hold for some time. Thanks to all those who helped out with ideas and suggestions for this race.

Looks good to me.

Like the way you made them into an intellectual as opposed to physical race. Unusual for D&D but far from unwelcome.

I like that. If you work out their culture a lot, you should end up with a really nice cmponent to your CS. They also would make an interesting replacement for dwarves or for elves, as they can cover both the magical creation front or the sheer spellcasting front equally well.
This technique of RPG playing has been passed down the Bloodmooon line for generations!

Well, I'm keeping the core races, but I really wanted a race that had the regal qualities of the elf, but incorporated a love for learning. Sort of like a bit more of a somewhat introverted elf. Elves have always struck me as being more involved in magic than basic crafting. That's the niche I wanted to fill here. I'm glad they're getting good feedback now that most of the fluff text is written.
