I'm trying to come up with a comprehensive (or at least reasonably so) list of subcategories for these skills. Here's what I've come up with so far for Craft and Perform. Profession is so varied, I don't know if it's even possible to come up with a list.

Craft (Alchemy)
Craft (Armor)
Craft (Bowmaking)
Craft (Gemcutting)
Craft (Leatherworking)
Craft (Metalworking)
Craft (Ring)
Craft (Sculpture)
Craft (Stoneworking)
Craft (Weapons)
Craft (Woodworking)
Perform (Dancing)
Perform (Instruments)
Perform (Songs)

What else would you add (or remove)?

For me:
For Craft, as long as materials are combined and a physical item is the result then it can be included.
For Perform, if it can be performed it can be included.
For Profession it's tough to have a definition. Something along the lines of "if it involves the doing of a specific task but without the production of physical items then it can be included" . Though this definition seems lacking to me. Especially because of some more awkward crossovers, like Scribe since your carrying out a specific task but are creating a physical item as a result.
The most worthless line of any RPG book EVER:
"Though these two kinds of devils wield terrible powers, they have different characteristics and appearances."

Well, I agree with Jimp for the broad definitions.

A few I've used:

Perform(oratory)
Perform(rhetoric)
Profession(diplomat)
Profession(lawyer)
Profession(shopkeep)
Profession(farmer)
Profession(apothecary)
Profession(smithy)
Level 5 Nebraskan

Craft (sailmaking)
Craft (carpentry) (not woodworking)
Perform (epic poetry)
Perform (ballads)
Perform (limericks)
Perform (Sonnets)
Profession (herbalist)
Profession (sailor)

There are plenty of others too...

Craft (Armor) and Craft (weapon) are too broad. There are different ways of making various weapons and armors that are covered under other craft skills (like leatherworking, for example)...

Thanks for the help. I'm working on an AJAX application that will serve as a character generator, and I'm trying to make it as comprehensive as possible.

As a side note, yeah, I know that there are already tons (probably hundreds) of automated character sheets out there, but I need to learn AJAX for my web design company, and this seemed like a fun way to do it, so that's the whole thinking behind this.

If anyone thinks of more suggestions, let me know!

Ok. Here's the current list as it stands with the suggestions made here. There were a few that I either left out or changed slightly for whatever reason, but I used most everything. I threw in Knowledge skills (I used the ones straight out of the PHB) just in case anyone has any really good ideas for those, but I think most everything is already covered.

Craft (Alchemy)
Craft (Bowmaking)
Craft (Carpentry)
Craft (Gemcutting)
Craft (Glassmaking)
Craft (Jewelery)
Craft (Leatherworking)
Craft (Masonry)
Craft (Metalworking)
Craft (Papermaking)
Craft (Pottery)
Craft (Sculpture)
Craft (Stoneworking)
Craft (Trapmaking)
Craft (Weaving)
Craft (Woodworking)

Knowledge (Arcana)
Knowledge (Dungeoneering)
Knowledge (Geography)
Knowledge (History)
Knowledge (Local)
Knowledge (Nature)
Knowledge (Nobility & Royalty)
Knowledge (The Planes)
Knowledge (Religion)

Perform (Ballads)
Perform (Dancing)
Perform (Epic Poetry)
Perform (Instruments)
Perform (Limericks)
Perform (Oratory)
Perform (Oratory)
Perform (Rhetoric)
Perform (Songs)
Perform (Sonnets)
Perform (Taiko)
Perform (Ud)

Profession (Apothecary)
Profession (Chimney Sweep)
Profession (Diplomat)
Profession (Engineer)
Profession (Farmer)
Profession (Grave Robber)
Profession (Herbalist)
Profession (Lawyer)
Profession (Sailor)
Profession (Shopkeep)

Wouldn't it be easier to make the program so that it allows the end user to enter the sub-skill as they need it, just like a paper character sheet? Then all you have to do is have the core ones in the system. Of course, the non-standard skills would have to be re-entered for a new character, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Anyway, from the old Sword and Fist supplement, WotC listed Knowledge [War] as a skill, and I think there was a Craft [Seige Engine] I've seen somewhere.

Iron Kingdoms has a few steampunk geared Craft skills, like Mechanicka (probably better known as Clockwork in other settings), Small Arms (meaning guns) and Cannons.

In my own campaign, Profession [prostitute] is a skill possessed by men and women who live at the temple of the pleasure seeking cat goddess. It's probably a common skill in most other settings, too, but legality may vary...

And, uhm Raven... Whipping Boy?

;)

If you work off of a Sequel database, that's not true. Each new entry will be added to the list of options. :D

you can add perform (weapon drill) from complete warrior.
unless you never use psionics you better add knowledge (psionic).
knowledge (economy) is an option.
proffesion (diplomat) could be replaced by the diplomacy skill.
perform (jokes) sound nice. perform (mime) sound cool. perform (theater player) is another option.
you can make many more:
proffesion (contractor)
proffesion (psychologist)
proffesion (manager)
proffesion (whitewasher)
proffesion (social worker)
proffesion (barber)
proffesion (tax colector)
proffesion (waiter)
proffesion (politician)
craft (shoemaker)
craft (tailor)
craft (goldsmyth)
I wish only only happiness, good luck and health to all of you.

Good examples, Barakh. If we are going to talk about Knowledge ( ____ ) skills, too, here are some I like.

Knowledge (anatomy)
Knowledge (medicine)
Knowledge (botony)
Knowledge (astrology)
Knowledge (mathematics)
Knowledge (physics)
Knowledge (alchemy) - not to replace Craft (alchemy) but to represent one's theoretical knowledge
Knowledge (economics)

By the way, a good source of Knowledge subskills would be any college course offering.

Thanks for the additional responses. I've considered using a text box for allowing the user to specify their own items, and I still may. However, I'm still working on the backend database, and the current structure (which I'm hoping will become more streamlined as I continue) isn't terribly flexible for this sort of thing.

I am toying with a few other methods of storing skills and whatnot, so this thread may end up being a somewhat moot point. But no matter what method I choose, I'll definitely be using these suggestions in some sort of manner. Just have to figure out what that manner is.

Glad we could help, though I am all for seeing this thread continue as a means to come up with as many subskills as possible. Perhaps we need a new thread for that, though. Anyone want to do the honors?

Subskills, reminds me of the Serenity system. I sense a new thread coming....

Anyway, how about:
Perform (improv)
Perform (slapstick)
Perform (imitation)
Knowledge (engineering)
Knowledge (particle physics)
Knowledge (quantum mechanics)
Knowledge (psychohistory)
Profession (bum)
Profession (philosopher)
Profession (mathematician) - ok, all three are basically the same thing....
