What type of stats would a set of Astral Full Plate have? I mean I know it is lighter then a normal set of Full Plate, but would it count as one armor type lower like Mithril would? So it would be medium armor stead of heavy.

When you say "Astral," are you referring to the material Astral Driftmetal or something else? Armor made from the former is actually 5 lbs heavier and grants the ability for the armor to be effective against incorporeal touch attacks 25% of the time. If the latter... I have no idea what you're referring to.

Well my DM said it was Astral Driftmetal, but when I was going over the item I felt it's weight and he said it was lighter then what it looked like it would be.

Maybe you just did really poorly on your appraise skill check and improperly guessed it as lighter than it was?

I'd recommend asking your DM about it, and if he confirms that it's Astral Driftmetal, point out that it's 5 lbs heavier and not at all lighter. He or she can come up with the excuse as to why it's lighter than its supposed to be ( like having tiny unseen servants lift it up a bit for you whenever you try to lift it. Yeah. That's it. :D )

I did not appraise it with a skill I had my character pick the armor up and feel its weight. I don't really understand why something from the astral plane would be heavyer though. Seems like it would be lighter with the maner that it just sorts of floats and has its own gravity field and such in the astral plane. Also he said it was a hard metal, and this would increase the AC of the Full Plate. So how much would it increase the AC?

That's entirely up to him. He's obviously not using WoTC's version of Astral Driftmetal. Sorry we can't be of further assistance.

Yeah. Quite litterally, WotC Astral Driftmetal only grants a 25% chance to be effective against incorporeal touch attacks (and only incorporeal touch attacks... no help against, say, eldritch blast) and weighs 5 lbs. more. Not worth the cost, not worth the effort.

Quote

Also he said it was a hard metal, and this would increase the AC of the Full Plate. So how much would it increase the AC?

It also states, quite specifically, that everything else - check penalty, weight class, armor bonus, etc. - are unchanged. So if your DM is using the WotC Astral Driftmetal, he's using it seriously wrong.

The hardness of a material never changes the armor bonus it grants. It may, as evidenced by adamantine, grant a small amount of damage reduction, but that's it.

I was going to demand he procure a shrubbery and then chop down the tallest tree in the forest with a herring, but beating himself with celery is fine too.

Seorith, would it be fair to assume this topic's done and it's ok for me to close it?

Oh really, Jack? Well I think I shall have the last word on this matter. Rather than using celery, you should roll yourself in honey, construct a shield from Ritz crackers and a sword from cabbage and prod the nearest tarrasque until it wakes up. :P

Actually, they did in fact change Astral Driftmetal over to 3.5.

3.5 Astral Driftmetal:

-No weight increase (but no weight decrease either)
-100% effective against incorporeal touch attacks
-Additional 12,000 gp in price
-Can only be used for "chunky" metal armors

Thanks for the update Dthclaw. I'm still learning about many of the changes, and this is an interesting one. I wonder why exactly they would see the need to alter it completely instead of merely making a new addition (which they don't seem to have many scruples against anyways).

Yeah. They changed another one of the Arms and Equipment materials, but it's late and I have a long day ahead, so I'll post sometime in the next day or two.
