I believe a shadow template exists somewhere. Check in the Manual of the Planes. ~goes digging for half an hour~

[Edit]

Found it! It is on page 190 of the Manual of the Planes. It works on any corporeal creature, increases speed, and gives some nifty little special abilities. CR Adjustment is only +1, which is a nice perk. As Manual of the Planes is e3.0, you may have to update some of the stuff and figure out what the LA would be (assuming PCs can be shadow creatures).

You can always go to the local bookstore and look at the book there. You might also try libraries. I think some might have it. To be honest, it is a book well worth getting. If you do, I am sure Lady can point you in the direction of some good retailers.

The thing is, I live in NZ, home of Peter Jackson, good dairy products to match that of switzerland and the All Blacks rugby team.

This sadly means that there are about three stores on the north island (two of them being abou 200km away+), the other being nearby, but they overcharge and dont really let people look before buying.

And, almost every library is "Cristian" or however you spell it, so they are highly against puttin DnD related books in. And they say the Goverment owns the library.

Well, since you have the internet, have you ever considered buying online? You can often get some sort of discount on books when you buy online, tho shipping might be a [POODLE].

(to clarify some things)
All the grey earth posts will be in the worldbuilding section. Keep them together.
Not everyone needs to be a visionary, and an uncommon race.

Now, the first item of bisness. We have no drafts. Please send any ideas you think may be worthwhile for about a CR 1/2, often CE,rarely LE faction foe. I KNOW YOUR OUT THERE SOMEWHERE! SUBMIT! SUBMIT! [WOMBAT] POST NINJAS!!

And now, less complaining, more stuff.

The shadetouched race.

A player cannot begin as a shade. They must first meet these criteria:
1: Be lowered to 0 or less by a shade creature.
2: Not be a visionary.

How a player becomes a shadetouched.

To become a shade, you go though 3 phases.
You gain no experience while going though these. Instead, the experience goes to the growth of the shadetouched. You go to the next Phase with each 250xp gained. After the third, you gain xp and levels as normal.

These are the Phases;

Phase one: Pale white: You are immune to poison. You get a -3 to strength and constitution while in the pale white phase.
Phase two: Grey: You now don't have to make consentration checks. You now only have a -1 to strength and constitution, but you can no longer speak. If you are illiterate, you must learn how to read and write at the next level you gain, no matter what.
Phase three: Shade: Your skin is now black. You eyes are now bright yellow. You now have Night vision 120ft and Low light vision 240ft. The -1 to strength and constitution is gone. You can talk to shades mentally, but do not expect a kind, nor helpful response from the evil ones. You may also talk to other shadetouched in this way.

EDIT: The shadetouched transformation is involentary, and if the charecter (not just PC's) does not want to become a shadetouched, they must make a 14 + DC of shade, rounded up constitution check. If failed, they become shadetouched or dead, if failed by too much (depending on the DM's decsion). The change bettween phases takes 5 minutes. The immunity to posion and cancellation of concentration checks carry over into the next phase. The shadetouched loses it's previous race for the sake of bane and such, but keeps the positives and negitives of that race (e.g: an elf's immunity to sleep or a half-orc's penalty to charisma as well as intelligence and bonus to strength).

This is just the first draft. Please respond, edit and submit content.

Ok, Magus, lemme 'splain something to you.

WE DO NOT BUILD OTHER PEOPLE'S WORLDS. If you want help, post a question. We will answer it. We do not just toss material to people. If you want help on something specific, post what you have and ask for help on shoring up a particular piece.

Also, 20$ or so for a Monster Manual will solve alot of problems template wise and monster wise. It should have details on becoming a shade.

A: Yeah, sorry. This was kinda supposed to be a we thing, not a me thing.
B: I live in nz. Monster manuals are about $50 Nz dollars here.

Again, just clarifying.

Then I'm sorry to say, you've come to the wrong place. Our opinions of campaign worlds are so diverse here that it would quite literally be impossible to get us all together in agreement on many parts of a single project. We each have our own projects, and in many cases, our own campaign worlds that we're busy developing. To drop our babies and rush to try to build one for someone else, that none of us will ever use, is quite simply not a possibility.

We'll comment on your world as you develop it. We'll pick it apart, point out the difficulties, and commend you on anything that may deserve commendation. We'll provide you with constructive feedback about the things you create for your world. But without the three core books, I'm going to tell you this very bluntly, you aren't going to get very far. Obtain copies somehow, even if you have to borrow them from a friend. Then read them. After you've got that out of the way, then begin working on your Grey Earth. Heck, keep a development journal of it on this site (see blog section) just like I've been doing since I've decided to rework my world from scratch for the third time. As you start hammering out races, deities, maps, etc, submit them to the forum for criticism and evaluation. After you've fixed some of the blips we've pointed out (on which you will get various often contradicting opinions), submit them to the resources section of the site as completed portions.

Just to clarify, no matter what you may think at this moment, your ideas for Grey Earth are so specific, that it's obviously a you thing, and not a we thing, which is impossible with the many and various people on this site. We'll help fix stuff, but we won't built it for you.

Excuse me... But factions are groups with in groups, usually sepratisis or just simply dissedents. But by nature they would probably be LE. Just something for you to consider. They wouldn't neccessarily have to be LE, they could be just a simple clique or group who agree, but lack organization and seldom work together.

Also, you're asking for a group (faction) so the CR would most likely be based on the race of creatuer(s) with in the group. And that could vary.

In fact, this thread has gone on far too long. If you haven't gotten the hint yet that you need to do your own work instead of having someone else do it for you, you need to go somewhere else. We don't mind helping you develop your own ideas, but we WILL NOT MAKE THE IDEAS FOR YOU.

This is the FINAL WORD.
