Necrotic Cyst line of spells from Libris Mortis.

With the right necromancy focus and enough intelligence, plus a bit of subtlety, you can be extremely deadly. Place a necrotic cyst in all your political opponents, and use them as puppets, if they don't obey, necrotic termination takes care of the problem.

Ooooh... where to begin...

Prestidigiation (or however it's spelled...) is fun because it has so many uses for pranks and other, more nefarious uses. Wizard in my group once used it to cause a mounted opponent's mount to freak out and try to toss him.

Good spell for using the imagination with

Actually, there're a host of damaging 0 and 1st level spells. Ray of Frost, Acid Splash, the Lesser Orb series, Burning Hands... I could go on, but Magic Missile is far from the only damaging spell at 1st level.

Besides, Read Magic is handy to have. Just not in combat ;)

Phantasmal Force has always been my favorite. basically, its a kill to any creature below your level and that has sight. there is also a chance for an insta-kill with levels above your own.

With a little roleplaying, vantriloquism is worth every copper. Fireball continues to be the magical equivaletn of duct tape. Ghost sound is so much fun, too. But when it comes to pure doom spells, my favorite is gate. If you're not sure why, watch Farscape. The possibilities for gate are endless.

Fly/Improved invisibility. You use these spells even on epic levels. There are always some creatures defenceless against these spells (even a paragon psuedonatural dire tiger can"t harm a flying creature). Must be for every sorcerer.
I wish only only happiness, good luck and health to all of you.

My arcane trickster loves Scorching Ray. You can take Energy Substitution to make it one of the most versatile spells in the game (if you also get a sneak attack.)
