I am trying to create a blind pc. I am just having a hard time of it trying to figure out how the perception for that character would be. Would they have exceptional hearing and smell, or would they be completely worthless, if any one could help me on this.

I would give him an exceptionaly low Dexterity. Probably a 3. But i would perhaps give him the Scent ability, and perhaps a limited blindsence, like a 5 ft radius, but that is up to you.

I wouldn't penalize abilities in any way, just have them under a permanent blindness effect (which you may or may not be able to have cured). As a trade-off, allow the taking of feats that grant blindsight or tremorsense or something; have a look at Savage Species, and ask the DM if you can have a special qualification for the monster feats pertaining to sight. Such a character would likely have a high wisdom score, since their other senses would sharpen.

A blind PC is perfectly viable, and in fact would make for a very interesting and fulfilling RP experience.

I just remember reading in some 2E book, (actually been on a 2E binge as of late) and in the Players handbook they were talking about ability scores and how low ones offered roleplaying opportunities for low scores. A Dex of 3 = blind. It actually makes sence, he would have no real dexterity bonus to anything, only severe penalties, and before anyone says Daredevil, sight is our sence that most directly effects us, tho i suppose you could make a case for touch.

Well in 3.5 blind means...

Blinded: The character cannot see. He takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class, loses his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), moves at half speed, and takes a –4 penalty on Search checks and on most Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks. All checks and activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Spot checks) automatically fail. All opponents are considered to have total concealment (50% miss chance) to the blinded character. Characters who remain blinded for a long time grow accustomed to these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.

They key part here is that last sentence. What type of blind character will this be? Because a blind monk would be played and developed a lot differently than a blind wizard. A blind wizard would find a magical means around the blnidness, a blind monk would over come and train his other senses to perfection (blindsense feat), a blind druid would have animals as their eyes...imagine a druid with a pack of seeing eye wolves...etc etc etc More ifo plz :)

also remember to watch what you say ingame.
DM: "A tall man in a red coat stands a short distance from the party"
Blindo-the-blind: "I'll go up to the tall man in the red coat"
That's a no-no ;)

I had a similar problem when creating Shadow Kami. Kami doesn't have a tongue, so he can't talk (At least in any understandable way), but as a trade off he's now pretty good at keeping quiet. He gets a bonus to Move Silently checks but automatically fails any checks pertaining to speech, like Diplomacy, unless he gets his tongue back or develops sign language for dummies in the Middle Ages.

The 1st key on assigning bonuses for the disability, is to remember exactly what the disability entails. A loss of sight might entail an increase in sound perception, or an increase in blindsense to sense the area around you. A loss of hearing might compensate with better sight or the ability to lipread. A loss of both would increase blindsense dramatically, and the resultant sensitivity to the surrounding area may result in a bonus to Balance and Move Silently checks as they carefully move about the area sensing every change.

The 2nd key is balance, you can change everything you want or require, but remember to try and keep it within an equal number of penalties and bonuses, give or take. Equivalances remain. But mostly try to keep it at the same LA

Do you have any Idea how much not having a tongue annoys me? I can't make any sarcastic comments, and Aust's player has to do most of the talking, which is not a good idea...

With all the sarcastic comments you come up with OOC Kami, I think the world is safer knowing you can't make any of them IC :P

Besides, you get to curse and swear at all the big evil guys without risking your own life, unless you include a hand gesture

Actually, that reminds me, there's a psionic power that allows a character to overcome blindness without actually curing it. Might want to take a look at the EPH, elfwitch...
