Well by the time that you find a Cloak of Poison-thingy, most of the fighters of the group should be able to make that Fort save with only little difficulty. Also, I don't know too many people who would put on an un-Identified item because of curses like that.

" You're wrong, Dth, the cloak allows a DC 28 Fort Save to survive. Otherwise, yes, they are dead, instantly. There is also something about a spot check to note the poison in the fabric.." - Vaskre

Hmm. Okay. 50-50 chance of being right when guessing. ;)

Of course, that doesn't stop a cold-hearted DM from making a similar, no save artifact.

Hmm... gives me an idea....

Drow sleep poison is the best. Nothing like a poison tipped crossbow bolt to knock a 300 pound dwarf flat on his [CHAIR].

I think the beauty of something like poison is that you dont have to stick to the DM Guide...yes I know you never have to stick to the DMG, but with poison its ridiculously easy to make up your own and have the exact same ruleset apply

poison is basicaly this
1)Poison Type X
2) Fort Save DC X
3) Initial Effect X
4) Secondary Effect X

all you have to do is fill in the X

I must admit most poisons in the DMG are a bit underpowered, especialy for an assassin type trying to take out a heroish character, so make yer own using the method above :) Ofcourse the more deadly the poison the more difficult it is to obtain, and the more illegeal it will be...in general

example

Black Blood Extract
Wound Poison
Fort Save DC 36
Initial Effect 4d8 Con Damage
Secondary Effect Paralysis

This poison is brewed from Black Dragon Blood and takes a full week to prepare. A minimul of 100 oz of blood is required to produce 1 oz of the poison, which is enough for 5 doses.

The creation process costs 10,000 gp and requires an Alchemy check DC 30. If the check fails the blood is wasted.

Wait... Drow sleep poison that has only a DC of about 12? I know of no average dwarf that would fail that save even half of the time. Dwarves already get a +2 to saves against poison and they have their natural Con bonus. Personally, I think that the drow sleep poison is the worst poison in the game. The DC is so low that most anyone can make it with ease.

I have to agree. Drow poison is pathetic, actually.

Only real good against elves. Which I guess is the motive behind the drow making the stuff.

Because we all know just what kind of 'love' the drow have in their happy society...

From what I read in Salvatore's Forgotten Realms novels (which were subsided by TSR and WOC) I figured it would be very powerful...I guess it didn't quite carry over into the DMG. I'll check next time.

Drow Poison = Great RP, not much else.

Though even in the books.. it took tons of the stuff to stop Pwent, Dwarvish Gutbuster.

Very True. How Else do you explain how, basing this on second edition when the book came out, Wulfgar was able to destroy a mountain cavern roof with Aegis Fang, a warhammer that only did a 1d4 base damage + the magical enhancements. The + to damage must have been like 100 or something. Aside from that, how did Bruenor Imbue the magic? Good for the books, but not in the books.

Second Edition was something to behold. I'll admit there were many things wrong with it, but that goes with the territory. But 2e was fun.
if you were a dual-classing human
Dude, shut-up.
dual classing was stupid
But 3.5 reverts slightly to 2e for a reason.
whatever...3e all the way
