Well, when you consider that every cell has something of a 'base' level of intelligence, then it becomes quite possible to have poisons and viruses that are the cellular equivalent of 'sentient'

Shoot if you are getting into sentient poisons then you might as well make diseases and such that will destroy people. Think of it as biological warfare, DnD style.

That's basically what the Cancer Mage does. It has sentient diseases that it can sic on people (no pun intended), as well as some really nasty other abilities (I think it could actually turn into a cloud of disease organisms or something as well).

Since in many aspects poison and disease are so similar, why not make a vile PrC that can eventually become living, liquid poison?

I think that would be more like a template, although you could use the Dragon Disciple PrC as a base model for it. Not sure how it would evolve though

I figured it would kind of go along like Thrall of Juiblex for the ooze qualities and have a unique, scaling progression of their poison strength (probably based on Con or something). Maybe do something like Ranger and have a series of favored poisons their body can produce.

What exactly do you mean by favored poisons? Are you going to allow this thing to secrete more than one kind of poison?

I was kinda planning on it having one form of poison that would be most potent, a second that was kind of potent (but different damage type), and a third that was fairly weak (but a third damage type). The thing would choose what type of poison to dump into a wound it inflicts (or if it decides to leave part of itself as an ingestible... ewwww...).

Why doesn't it just control how much damage the poison will do. For example, the thing's poison damage can do a maximum of 6d6 Con damage but the thing can choose to lower its potency to anything minimum 1 Con damage.

Hmm. Yeah, that would be an option. I guess that as the thingy levels up, it raises the cap on what its poisons can do.

By different damage type, I should have been more specific: I meant that the first one could do con damage, the second could do str, etc.

Of course, any smart character would probably choose to do maximum damage to Constitution, since bringing that to 0 is automatic death

Well death isn't always the purpose of poisoning a person. Incapacatating is a good goal. Having the person show weakness from being poisoned is another good idea.

Although that is very true, most times poison is used purely for the reason of defeating an enemy, usually through bringing them to death or unconciousness before they do likewise to you

I figured they should have multiple flavors because 1)otherwise, their poison would get too powerful and 2)it gives them more flexibility.

Woe, I was thinking that the Poisonform's poisons would be unique stuff, not the book ones B) Although I like your thinking. :D
