I can't seem to find the rules on poison... I'm assuming initial damage happens instantly, and secondary damage happens on the following round? But nonetheless.. I'd like to view the rules on poison.. what page are they on in the PHB and/or DMG? I can't seem to find them.. dunno how I missed 'em.

Dungeon Master's Guide Page 296
Initial Damage: The damage the character takes immediately upon failing his saving throw against this poison. Ability damage is temporary unless marked with an asterisk (*), in which case the loss is a permanent drain. Paralysis lasts for 2D6 minutes.
Secondary Damage: The amount of damage that character takes 1 minute after the exposure as a result of poisoning, if he fails a second saving throw. Unconsciousness last for 1D3 hours. Ability damage marked with an asterisk is permanent drain instead of temporary damage

According to this, the first bit occurs the round of exposure (when you get hit with the poison), and the next bit occurs 10 rounds later (1 round = 6 seconds, 10 rounds = 60 seconds (1 minute)).

Fortunately, I don't know of any poisons that cause blindness :P

Taint of Shadow
Magical Poison
This thick, viscous black liquid can only be used as an injury poison; it floats on liquids and cannot be readily mixed with most foods without rotting them away. The Taint deals

1d3 negative level as initial damage, and blinds its victim as secondary damage.

A victim reduced to 0 levels or HD by Taint of Shadow becomes a shadow (see the MM) under the poisoner's control. This creature is not subject to the secondary blindness effect of the poison.

hmm...a question there...
The poison keeps striking its secondary damage until you do your save or is it just dealt once?

Technically, it is just dealt with once. I have read nothing that would say differently.

I haven't read anything that says it continues either, but then again I haven't read anything that says it just occurs once ;)

the poison description should tell you if its a 1 save or multisave.
i dont like the new poison system , theres no instant kill poisons anymore - even Wyvern poison is pathetic , 2d6 con for primary and secondary damage and its not even pemenant! with a DC17 to the save  , wyvern poison has always been instant kill if you fail to save and with a humungeous save required.
Look at the way poison is used now , the only way to use it is to coat a weapon and stab someone , there's no ingestion , imbibeing(drinking) , gas or any of the other methods that have been in DnD since the start.

D
Its like the mouse in "The Green Mile" , it's too cute to kill and it just wont die

"Arrgh , Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal"

Uh.. Darius.. There's four ways to use poison in 3.5.. Ingested.. Inhaled.. Contact (touch).. Injury (weapon poison).. And some of those poisons can be wicked strong.. like 3d6, then 3d6 secondary.. You know if you hit 0 con, even temporarily, you die, right?

This is what we came up with about poison so far on this forum: Poisons.

3d6 ability score damage is still pretty pathetic compared to instant kill or permanent ability damage only restorable via Greater Restoration, Limited Wish or higher spell. There is always the possibility of rolling 6 1's making the poison suck. Not to mention the DC is so friggin low its easy to make when you are going up against fighters.

Seriously. My dwarven barbarian has probably downed a barrel full of posion in his life time, and merely clears his throat to be rid of it.

There's not a poison in the DMG that can harm Morganth, purely by way of his base save bonuses :)
