Was this Grimdolf fellow able to perfect the claws or were they still in their... "experimental" phases?

Yeah, uh, no. given its contraversy and the fact that it does not exist in dnd 3.0, no. chances are no. unless it's for a higher level battle and is designed much more balanced.

Well at least it doesn't exist in the books of 3.0.

On an off note, the 300d6 spell in the EHB is "Vengeful Gaze of God" and yes, it does deal 200d6 to the caster, as well as needing a successful spellcraft check. (The DC is about 90 - 100, round there.)

Oh, and as for someone being able to being hit by a gian't fist, you misunderstand, a players HP equate their ability to withstand, or otherwise, negate damage. 10 HP to a level 100 fighter might equate to being nicked on the hand while parrying a blow. 10 HP to a level 1 fighter probably equates to being skewered by a spear. Understand? So that giant, if it did hit the 100 fighter, would probably land a glancing blow, if that. (The Fighter would dodge or do something like that.) While the level 1 would have his head pounded in. See?

So.. as you gain levels, you -technically- can't take any more damage than a level 1, you just gain abilities to avoid it better, and in some cases, yeah, you do gain some endurance and your skin thickens abit, but it's still about technique.

Anyhow.

To add to the list: The blades are overpowered. Make them have a miss chance or something, or maybe treat them as a weapon he's not proficient in (so he has a hard time hitting). Also, what's the critical threat range / damage on these?

Edit: Also, do these provoke AoO when attacking? Furthermore, I'd just like to note, lets say you have x3 critical hit on these, max damage would be 1224.. Enough to kill any of the Lords of Hell in one hit, and almost enough to kill a Destroyer Beetle in one hit (Destroyer Beetle = Highest HP NPC to my knowledge = 2,000 some hp)

The Critical range is normal (20) with the usual multiplier (x2)
Max. Dmg: 816(+Str. mod)

I would certainly think that an AoO would be a good move, since seeing these things coming toward you would certainly scare a flinch at the least.
Perhaps a 15% Miss Chance would be in order at the least

If you had Exotic Weapon Prof. then the AoO would be negated wouldn't it?

True, but I'm not going to make an 'Exotic Weapon Proficiency (arm blades)' feat for just the one character out of millions

And, besides, how would the character have it? I mean, he hasn't used them much, has he? Thus.. how would he know how to use them effectively.. And wouldn't you take a -4 penalty on to hit rolls because of not having the proficiency..?

Perhaps he could have to cast a spell or something to make them "come out" as well.. High level and has penalties.. I dunno.

Perhaps a drawback effect like those noted in the DMG?
  • Character cannot cast any spells
  • Character is stunned for 1D4 rounds once item function is finished (or randomly, 1/day)
  • Character must attack nearest creature (40% chance on D% each use)
  • Character's alignment changes during use (Returns to normal once item function is finished)
  • Character's vision is blurry (-2 penalty on attack rolls, saves, and skill checks requiring vision)
Or it could have a unique drawback
  • Character's personality changes
  • Character becomes paranoid (perhaps over a period of time)
  • Character contracts natural diseases much easier than normal
  • Character receives HP damage from rust effects
These are just a few ideas, I haven't quite worked out how they all work yet

I personally like fatigue myself and you can even make it fatigue to the point of HP loss.

We could have fatigue, but if we decide that he can only use them when he's low on HP, then it's just a suicide rush.

No, despite not having been used for centuries (To reiterate, he's 452 years old  ), they are in remarkably good condition.

However, we could impose a constitution penalty for engaging them

Side Note : My DM's been rolling up Grimdolf for a while now. If he doesn't nerf him considerably, Morganth won't stand a chance against him even with these. [Grimdolf, Human, 20 Cleric/15 Ranger/20 Rogue/20 Sorcerer]
