Just got this book a few days ago as the campaing I will be playing in is in a cold environment and the dm is using this book... I must say I was pleasently surprised. Its got some decent things in it. My favorite by far is the Primeval PrC. Have you guys taken a look at this? This is madness, a halforc barbarian with the right stats and some careful equipment choices with a polar bear or a rhino as their "innner animal" with rage would ger +20 to str for the duration of the rage.... I LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH but its maddd...now admitedly there are drawbacks..but i do not think these are enough to offset the benefits of a straight up damage dealing Tank.

Who publishes this book? Is it all for arctic/cold-weather adventures? How much does it cost (preferably in CAN, but I can convert the US$ if necessary)? How many pages? I admit, for the first time in a while, I'm actually interested in buying the book, but I want to know a bit more about it first.

Yeah, that is pretty stupid. The PDF is availible from DrivThruRPG for $34.95 (US dollars). Most PDFs there are half that or less. I imagine you could find the hardcover through Amozon for less, and it would probably qualify for their free shipping.

I wasn't really interested in it before reading Woe's post, now I'm considering purchasing it. Of course, Complete Adventurer comes out after the first of the year and I plan on making that my next purchase.

I would hold off on purchasing this book unless you plan on playing in an "Ice campaign" but I must say for that particular setting it provides some good info and resources. If you have some spare cash and a desire to amass even more books this is one I would recomend. Though as with all WotC material its ridiculously overpriced :)

You can buy it from Amazon.com through the site here, price is currently $23.07 USD for a new copy.

This is a book I do have on my wish list, hope to buy it sometime soon, but I don't need it until the party gets to where they're going into an arctic area. :)

Well you don't have to be in an artic area to use the book. You could always bring the artic to the players if that is at all possible.

I will agree, I did not find the book too interesting but now I guess I should actually take a look at it.

Out of curiousity, are there any drawbacks to the class?

When in the primal form you can not speak. The primal form acts as a druids wildshape so you need Wild armor and such if you want to use your equipmnet. You gain 1 to str dex con wis and lose 1 to int and cha every 3 levels i believe...basicaly it makes u stupid but ridiculously strong

You require 3 feats (endurance, self-sufficient,toughness) bab 8 and a sizable amount of skills to enter the calss. But nothing that would be undoable for a barbarian. The only real problem is if you start with an int of 8 or so...by the time you are done you will be a special indivifual.

Doesnt neccessarily have to be artic - somewhere like the canada/great plains arrangement in north america would work , An acquaintance of mine is from Minnesota. We were talking about snow in winter etc and she was saying that it's measured in Meters(Ok yards , you know what I mean :P ) , instead of feet and Inches and that the Blizzards were nasty.
the new stuff could be used for winter anywhere as long as you get snow and ice.

Well... That sounds like a lot of fun. The losses are only temporary correct? I mean its like a Wild Shape or Rage thing so it has a set duration right? I only ask because that last part about having an Int of 8 got me questioning.

Heh heh, they are already in a place that fits that description. A territory in my campaign world known as Coldwinds.

Although they wil be exiting soon, they are still far north and it's the middle of winter, so like Darius said,

Perhaps I shouldn't put it off, eh?

Nope the losses are permanent as yuo "revert to a more primal form"

As a class feature your str con dex wis increses as your int cha decreases, when you use the "rageish-wildshapeish ability" you gain a bonus to your physical stats = to your choice of "inner spirit" creature stats -10 (or -11 if the stat is odd) for 3 + con bonus rounds

You may choose Animals, Dire Animals, or dinosaurs, as the inner animal deal. The animal can be no more than 8 hit dice and no more than 1 size category larger than you.

If for example I (Woe the Human) choose a Dire Lion, now I get +14 to str +4 to dex and +6 to con for the duration or my reverted form....

i am seriously debating making a character totaly based on wolverine, with a dire wolverine as the spirit animal and some sor of exotic weapon as the claws...I'm thinking Barbarian (Need wolverine rage)/ranger (for when he calmed down and honed his art samurai style and for the 2 wpn fighting)/Primeval...with a wolverine as an animal companion :)
