Used by ancient halfling "tribes" in Faerun (Forgotten Realms.)

Anyone ever think about creating them as actual weapons in the game?

It'd be something interesting to see... Cadderly uses them in the Cleric Quintet (by R. A. Salvatore).. (Think yo-yo, kind of, except a weapon.)

It does. I don't remember which one either. But I think they did something like d2 dmg. The spindle-disks were great weapons in the story but I don't think they were that great in the game.

Hmmm.. well they wouldn't make an effective weapon, really, I mean they could.. It'd be interesting to make criticals happen alot with them, or have feats, or even a class, revolved around it. (Probably halfling only for the class.) - Just a thought.. it'd be interesting to RP, that's for sure.

Mesmerize

One ___ carrying a spin disk may make an attempt with his spin disks to mesmerize a creature of 9 or less intelligence. If the creature has less than 2 intelligence, there is no effect. If the player is disturbed at any time, the creature is no longer mesmerized. During mesmerization, a creature may make a will save every round to escape it...

or something like that.. it's late.. I should go to bed.. but I dunno, I think it'd be fun to RP something like that. Whee for Cadderly. (I still haven't finished those books either.. going to read 'em right now.)

They'd have to have some knowledge in history and such and they could be researched at a few of the bigger libraries. (Edificant Library when it still existed.. though I imagine you could research them now at Spirit Soaring.) Nonetheless, cool thing to RP. -always liked unconventional and exotic things-

I found part of it on the wizards webpage

Spindle Disk: A spindle disk is a tiny exotic melee weapon. The fist-sized sharpened crystal disk has a seam around the edge and a 3-foot cord wrapped into the seam. It is used like a yo-yo; the wielder spins the disk outward at a target, and, if it misses, it automatically winds itself up again (it can be used to make iterative attacks). If the disk hits a target, it must be wound manually (a move-equivalent action) before it can be used to attack again. A spindle disk is technically a thrown item and uses the wielder's Dexterity bonus instead of Strength for the attack roll, although it does not provoke an attack of opportunity when used. The wielder's Strength bonus applies to damage.

Cost 5 gp; damage 1d4, critical x2, weight 3 lb., type bludgeoning.

It's listed there near Cadderly's template (an example Chosen of Deneir.)
