ok. It's been a LONG time since I've done anything to the site. it's basically died, and I let that happen. The last several months I've been hemming and hawing, deciding whether or not I even want to continue with it. My mind has been so far from the site, and from D&D in general. 4E has come, and I'm not going to be using it. Pathfinder, however, I'm giving a chance sometime in the near future.

Anyway, I got a Kindle after christmas and decided to go back and start reading Drizzt Do'Urden from the beginning. And remembered why I love this game so much in the first place. That may sound odd, I know people in my group think the books are ok but not great. But in my mind I can see how the game mechanics apply to the action in the book, without sacrificing story or characterization, which makes them pretty much the best D&D books ever in my view.

So what does Drizzt have to do with DNDResources.com? I've got a bit of my old spark back I think. I'm going to give this one more shot, try and get things working to the point where the site is actually useful and moderately up to date, and easier for members to add their own content, which is at the moment impossible (and part of the reason we've died).

Step 1 is upgrading the board to the newest version, which includes a major jump. All modifications and additions (with the exception of blogs) are going bye-bye for the time being, though posts and members will remain.

Step 2 will be to work on the Resources portion of the site, which I will be trying to bring into a more "web 2.0" world and therefore hopefully make it something members will want to use.

Step 1 starts today. Wish me luck!

As you can see, phase 1 is moderately complete. The boards should be up and working, as should the blogs. I've gone in and approved all the unapproved posts and such, so the poor people who were stuck in limbo, should they come back, can start posting normally. The wiki is reachable, but I'm told the script that joins the forum membership with the wiki is kind of buggy.

I've put in this temporary theme while I create a new one. More changes and additions will be coming shortly.

Slowly but surely things are coming back.
  • The resources section is up but pretty empty. I have to go through all the old resources and see which ones are still even viable links, and manually add them to the new system.
  • The wiki is up and running, but I am trying to determine it's future. I want the capability of an editing environment to hold my campaign info, with all the various wiki capabilities, but I'm not sure I want it to remain mediawiki. After the disastrous db crash that lost several people a lot of hard work (myself included), I'm considering changing to a wiki that works within the Invision framework. Since one doesn't exist, I'd have to build it myself. *sigh*.
  • The site theme is back. the CSS still needs some work, and you'll see plenty of blue mixed in with the parchment. But eventually I'll get that cleaned up.
  • I need to work on the front page, adding boxes for navigation and "what's new" functionality.

It's good to hear from you again, Lady, and good to see some life coming back to DnDResources.

If you need any of us for anything, don't hesitate to ask... Not that I can do much myself, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Wow, it's been so long since I've dropped by, but I must say the site looks great. I really enjoyed my time here and might see about making it my home again. As always, you're amazing, Lady. Thank you for everything you've done here.

Can someone make me a member so I can put more than 3 posts up every 24hrs. I started submitting to the plot hooks section but I'd like member status please so I can start new topics.

Thanks,

Tanalos

Oh my god. I recognize so many names. I just came back to the site via googling for my user accounts. My God, has it been so long? So many stories and adventures, and fun times here. I hope everything livens up.
