Hi im just getting started (hence the topic name) and your site seemed friendly and intuitive.

I have looked at the player hand book and the only races they list are the basic half orc, halfling, half elf, elf, gmome and humen. yet you guys are talking about all kinds of different races , same with the classes you guys are talking about all these different classes and stuff. are these races and classes "official".

sorry for the complete noob q's but im curious. :)

::cough:: ::cough:: Just clearing the throat.

DnD has many many resource manuals both official and third party material. The official material allone though is enough to fill a small library. Many other classes and races, as well as items, spells, feats etc., can be found in other Wizards of the Coast (WotC) books such as Tome and Blood, or Sword and Fist. These books expand on the basic game put in place by the "Big 3" The Players Handbook (PHB), Dungeon Masters Guide (DMG) and the Monster Manual (MM).

If you are interested in trying different races/classes I would suggest going to wizards.com and peruzing their vast libraries, but before spending money and time I would sugest playing the 'basic' game to see if you like it and to learn all the nifty rules that you will inevitably want to break :)

Enjoy!

The Monster Manual also details some sub-races of the playable races in the Players Handbook

As much as I love the additional (core) classes and races from other Wizards of the Coast source books, WoeTheSinner has offered some sound advice. Before flooding yourself with a wealth of options, it's not a bad idea to stick with the basics and get familiar and comfortable with game play.

Many of the additional races and classes may have abilites or qualities that could make things confusing for someone new and unfamiliar with the game mechanics.

happy gaming! :D

Are the classes you have on your website under "classes and prestige classes" all made by wizard or are they thought up by you guys. also is there a site thats got like a list of all the different classes

Also this one time i took a test on some web site(pretty vague eh) to see what kind of d&d mage you should be and the possibilities were like time mage, void mage, and all the elemental mages. i thought it would be really cool to be a time mage. are these actuall classes or not.

Thanks for putting up with me. :)

Well here is the thing: The Wizards have made the contents of the game something that is called Open Game Contents (OGC). That means under the terms of Open Game License (OGL), you can change anything in the OGC as you like. As long as you don't break the terms of OGL, you can make many changes in the game, which includes adding new or changing existing races, classes and prestige classes, spells, feats, skills, etc. So many of those in the resources of this website (and of the others) are made by players, not the Wizards of the Coast. However, at least in this site (and ideally in others), you can see the source of such materials. If something that belongs to the Wizards is in the resources, you can see that reference.

I'm guessing your google serach turned up some good results.

I've founding interesting new classes, races, and varriants of standards browsing the forums of sites like Enworld, WotC, and Monte Cook. Other members who post there will (sometimes) have links in there signature to a web page or site for there own hombrewed campaign setting.

To your first question: They're all player made as far as I know, and most of them can be used in pretty much any campaign world.

To your second question: In 2nd edition, WoTC did release a book that had those mage types in them. In 3rd edition they have variations of them as Prestige Classes, but not as base classes. You may be able to find some player-made versions of the time mage (Chronomancer) out there.
