We entered the Whispering Cairn with a trepidation born of the newness of the group and the local superstitions we learned of this foreboding location. I am not a superstitious dwarf, and I have forsaken the god that has forsaken me, still, I have to admit there is a presence here that I know we should not disturb. Although I should feel comfortable under the earth, there is uneasiness about. There are many glyphs that Brianna cannot recognize. That in itself makes my skin shiver, but pared with the whispers, that I assume give this place its name, it is enough to make me forget the gold and leave here.

We have discovered a chamber with a sarcophagus, moving floors and death traps. We defeated ghouls…conquered a stone bed and nearly were destroyed by a ferocious horde of swarming beetles. Yes, they weren’t big beetles…but there were many of them…the nasty creatures crawled through my beard, in my ears, down my armor…why am I the one they flocked to with such abandon?

Nil-poj and Brianna came up with a flaming blanket idea that decisively defeated the many-legged creepy dungeon beasts! It was an amazingly executed although for a minute it looked as though Brianna would not be able to move quick enough to avoid the blanket of death. Nil-poj doused his blanket with four pints of lantern oil. She put herself at great risk lighting it and netting all of the swarm within the blankets fiery warm embrace.

In another chamber we discovered, down another floor that descended, we discovered a statue in a room of stone beds. The terracotta statue towered over me and held aloft it its hand a great club. An ancient corpse lay on one of the beds, its red armor moldy and reeking of decay. Bente, our healer, noticed that the corpse’s head was smashed in. After further investigating, Nil-poj discovered that the statue’s club had what appeared to be brain bits and hair from the corpse clinging to it. It was not hard for us to figure out what happened.

Nil-poj and I have an idea concerning the statue. However, we must wait until tomorrow to enact it and see if we are right.

Nil-poj and I have become kindred souls. She is out to prove her worth, I am out to seek revenge…I have taken a vow, and I will not rest until I have destroyed the…I must not speak of this.

A Brief Introduction

I had no intention of leaving my solitary life in the forest and hills outside of Diamond Lake; however, even I need supplies occasionally. I had a desperate hunger for ale and companionship. I found the ale to be passable but the companionship meager, until I happened to be nursing my ale in the dank tavern, The Rusted Nail.

There in the gloom, I accepted a position to be a fighter for a rag-tag group of unknown adventures. A couple of elven females (a fighter and a wizard), a jack-of-all and a healer of Pelor, had all joined ranks to earn some extra cash. Later on I discovered that a few of them were locals who had a desire to leave Diamond Lake for good.

We were paid by some shady night watchman (who Bente says she knows and is trustworthy) to map out a cairn near the town. I’ll admit, I was in need of some gold, so when the opportunity arose, I agreed to join.

We make an unusual party; however, I find that I like being surrounded by these tall women. The one dragon’s claw in my back . . . is that sneak, that low-life scum, Melvin. I do not trust him at all. He has a shiftiness to his eyes, liken he would sooner stab his grandmother in the back then risk his neck. Bente, the healer brought him along, said we needed to have him help us out. Bente, a townie, is looking for a way out of the area; she is quiet most of the time and handy with bandages. The wizard, Brianna, has some good ideas. I do not know or understand much of her magical ways, nor do I truly want to. It is Nil-poj, the fiery elven fighter, that I find myself becoming friends with. She has already proven herself to be useful in battle, and quick to attempt dangerous feats!

I, myself, a dwarven barbarian, am the last member of the party. Once joined with this group, I swore my allegiance to them. I will fight until my dying breath before I allow any one of them to come to harm. It is the least I can do, considering. . .
