I, Nagmar son of Kerrek, set down these words so all
may know of my great deeds.

We are in Swansea, the home of Mordreth and Cham. The
city is quite different then the others I’ve been to.
It seems to change people.

We are staying at Mordreth’s home across the lake from
the city. His family is welcoming and Mordreth is
laughing and smiling. Quite strange. On one of out
trips to the city, we stopped in a tavern that caters
to wizards, the gelded mage I think. A Elvin lass
that took a shine to Mordreth in school was waiting
there. Looks like Mordreth doesn’t know what to do
with the ladies. I’ll take him to a whorehouse
later and get his nose out of those dusty old books.

Cham tried to show me around ‘his city’. Our night
was cut short by his ego though and he ended up in a
temple. A few days later he challenged the elf girl to
a fight; in the magical battle he hit me. I should
hit him but that does not make him learn, must try a
different tactic. He also seems quite taken by
Mordreth’s sister, and he is very jealous of her
husband to be.

Bran is quite distant. He is almost not here half the
time. Makes sense, a priest of nature in a city.

Kern has taken to city life quite well. After
Mordreth, ignored the Elvin girls charms, Kern quickly
stepped in. When we were in battle on the barges, he
showed he was clever in battle. I doubt he would
miss a good opportunity. I will have to take him to a
whoring as well too.

Opal has left, she left a letter. I wish she just
would have told us to herself, like the warrior I know
she is.

I, Nagmar son of Kerrek, set down these words so all may know of my great deeds.

The night passed uneventfully, save for a bear wandering through the camp. We broke fast with eggs and trail rations, then decided which way to go next. The druid started with the argument on which way to go again. If he was a warriow I would have shown him my axe, but I can not hurt a druid. Bad luck.
We went the way he wated to go and wandered in to a bean field. If we had went the right way we would have been at the city. We took the nearest road and arived at the gate soon after.

At the gate we found a guard helpful enough to show us around a bit. We found two good inns and a fine whore house that Opal and I went to immediately. She's a fine looking lass, that Opal, and a good companion. Perhaps if we ever make it to the civlized lands i'll intrduce her to my cousen Wulf, he could use a good wife.

It was expensive, to get a discount we aske if someone could watch. I did not care.

I enter the room a lithe one...... (Translators note: I refuse to translate this, as Nagmar goes in too much detail about the encounter. )

We left the Curtianed House, as it was called, hours later and headed back to the inn. We met up with the others there. I had a drink, then took a bath to wash the whore stench off. Opal was in there as well, I think for much the same reasons.

A bit later, Cham busts in the the bathroom, and talks to Opal. She yells at him and leaves. Strange, perhaps Cham needs to learn to be a bit more careful with his words. After that I went to bed.

I, Nagmar son of Kerrek, set down these words so all may know of my great deeds.

Today we set out for the city of Mournhold. We had a choice of taking the long way or the shorter route through the Crying Woods. As we had nothing to fear we went the shorter way. With the help of Kern and Sirian, I guided us through the wood untill we were set apon by Ogres. Thank the Gods for wothy foes!!

The ogres tried to ambush us but they were unskilled at sneaking. We were ready for them. They came at us from three sides, I charged the middle one and left rest of the group have the others. Only one of our band fell to the ogres, the Bard had been hit with a javilin in the chest, but it matters not for he died with honor.

After we killed the three, their leader steped out from behind a bush. He taunted us, I suspect to hide his own fear.

I was the first to attack him and after awhile he was killed. This one will serve me well in the next life.

The Druid said a few words for the Bard, then lit a pyre for his body. Such a foolish thing to do. A fire in the forest. This druid is unlike any that I have known.

We had to stop as night was falling and the druid was being stubborn about which way to go. Cham climbed a tree to see which way to go, but he knows nothing about finding one's way by the stars. At least he found some eggs for breakfast.

I, Nagmar son of Kerrek, set down these words so all may know of my great deeds.

After finding the nest, the boys wandered off while the rest of us went back to the Inn. I was enjoying the company of two maidens, when Jarin knocked on my door to inform me of battle. The blasted mage that assulted me with foul magic was riding out of town!

With haste, I grabed my axe and helm, alerted Opal and then gave chace on foot. After a while, the boy with the bird rode by and let me on his horse. We rode on to where the mage fell off his horse and the boy with the rat and Kern were engaged in battle with a foul beast. I let the power of the gods flow in me and joined in. No one could smite the fell beast, until it disapeared. It was all a foul trick.

I then turned my attention to the mage, who had discused him self with magic. Kern had grabed him., the boy with the bird punched him, then I attacked with my axe almost splitting him in twain. He mumbled somthing about claws or somthing, it matters not for he is dead now. I then marked him.

After that we went back into town to retrive our things. I took a bath to get the mage's blood off of me. I then enjoyed the hospatily of one of the barmaids. I get dressed and went to the other bar to meet my companions.

They had a mug of ale waiting for me, they know me all too well. The boy with the bird was drunk and asked to be trained in the use of a weapon, so that he could become a man. I agreed. Perhaps I will train both boys at the same time..

I, Nagmar son of Kerrek, set down these words so all may know of my great deeds.

After teaching me runes, Grandmother Farmer suggested that I keep a journal. Seem like a strange endeavor but I respect her and I will do my best. A week ago I was helping Grandfather Farmer in the field with the druid and the skald; they are both Sons of the Forest, when we were beset by foul magic. It rendered all of us powerless. I awoke to find my self tied up like a hog. Every time I tried to break free or refused to eat, they beat me with sticks until I stopped moving. Warriors should not be treated as such. This was a mistake that I swore that their chieftain would pay for.

Several days later, we were released by a warrior woman calling her self Opal. She told me that, her companions had defeated the ones who captured me and were questioning one of them in the barn. I carried a cask of ale from the hut we were in, to the barn. As I entered their prisoner started screaming. They had him in some sort of device with oxen attached to him. He was not a warrior so I did not care.

I was introduced to her companions, along with the others. They are Jarin, a warrior, Mordryth, a boy with a raven, and Cham, a boy with a rat. The boy with the rat tried to intimidate me, I found him amusing and harmless. The one with the raven seems cagey. He released the prisoner but took part of his finger. Strange, I would have killed him better to kill a potential ally then to let a foe escape.

After that they started to blather on about this and that. I took a nap.

They woke me and we went to town. I retrieved my things from grandmother and grandfather and went to the inn. Looks like Jarin enjoys his ale. Spent the night talking to a hunter that I let win in arm wrestling. It got late and I went to bed.

Later the druid woke me up. I said that there was a scream and that there was “A bear, I think.” What kind of druid, or Son of the Forest, can’t tell a bear from a monster spawned b y magic, I think he is a fool. I put on my armour and went down stairs. I opened the door to see a horrible monster part bird and part bear. I yelled for assistance, drew strength from the gods and attacked. The boy with the raven shot fire from his hand at the beast, almost hitting me. The boy with the rat shot light at the thing. Opal and another warrior, named Kern, joined in fight as did that fool of a druid. Just as the beast was slain, the boy with the rat, charged at it. For not being an adult he is quite brave.

After I marked the beast with my sign, it will serve me well in the after life, Then Opal, Kern, the fool and I went and drank ale together. Then back to sleep.

The next day the entire village greeted us as the heroes that we are. We drank and sang and enjoyed the ladies. The boy with the rat explained to me he didn’t have a father and never had the rite of adulthood. I offered to take him as my son. He declined, but said he wanted me to teach him how to be strong. I agreed.

Around noon or so, we left to track the ‘Owl-bear’ as the boy with the raven called it. (He seems to get annoyed by being called boy.) We reached its nest and were rewarded with gold but didn’t find a reason why it attacked the town, strange.
