We entered the Whispering Cairn with a trepidation born of the newness of the group and the local superstitions we learned of this foreboding location. I am not a superstitious dwarf, and I have forsaken the god that has forsaken me, still, I have to admit there is a presence here that I know we should not disturb. Although I should feel comfortable under the earth, there is uneasiness about. There are many glyphs that Brianna cannot recognize. That in itself makes my skin shiver, but pared with the whispers, that I assume give this place its name, it is enough to make me forget the gold and leave here.
We have discovered a chamber with a sarcophagus, moving floors and death traps. We defeated ghouls…conquered a stone bed and nearly were destroyed by a ferocious horde of swarming beetles. Yes, they weren’t big beetles…but there were many of them…the nasty creatures crawled through my beard, in my ears, down my armor…why am I the one they flocked to with such abandon?
Nil-poj and Brianna came up with a flaming blanket idea that decisively defeated the many-legged creepy dungeon beasts! It was an amazingly executed although for a minute it looked as though Brianna would not be able to move quick enough to avoid the blanket of death. Nil-poj doused his blanket with four pints of lantern oil. She put herself at great risk lighting it and netting all of the swarm within the blankets fiery warm embrace.
In another chamber we discovered, down another floor that descended, we discovered a statue in a room of stone beds. The terracotta statue towered over me and held aloft it its hand a great club. An ancient corpse lay on one of the beds, its red armor moldy and reeking of decay. Bente, our healer, noticed that the corpse’s head was smashed in. After further investigating, Nil-poj discovered that the statue’s club had what appeared to be brain bits and hair from the corpse clinging to it. It was not hard for us to figure out what happened.
Nil-poj and I have an idea concerning the statue. However, we must wait until tomorrow to enact it and see if we are right.
Nil-poj and I have become kindred souls. She is out to prove her worth, I am out to seek revenge…I have taken a vow, and I will not rest until I have destroyed the…I must not speak of this.
