Dead men tell no tales

Month of Tempests, 26th day, 440

After yesterdays adventure in Pottytown we decide to check out some info Puddles gave us the other day at the stockade. He mentioned a retired cleric by the name of Nigel. He was the head of Shara's order and knew the girl too. Hopefully he can point us in the right direction. It's a ways out so to cut down on time we ride out on horses. I never rode a horse in my life, and let me tell you, it was the most uncomfortable and painful time in my life. Carlin tells me the more time I spend riding the horse the less painful it'll be. How the hell long is that going to take!? I can see everyone is enjoying my pain, but I'm in too much pain to really care.

We get to the cleric's house and it sort of reminds me of a church, which has got me a bit unnerved. I don't feel comfortable in churches so I get nervous. In order to keep calm I eat the guys sugar. It's better than me palming the stuff the guy has laying around the house. The cleric tells us he used to watch over the girl as she was growing up and that she came to him last week to talk. Nigel and Shara then get into a conversation on how much of a hellion she was growing up when out of the blue Opal suggests the kidnapping was staged. This gets two reactions: one from Nigel and one from Mordryth. Nigel looks like you just called him out for cheating at cards and he knows you got him dead to rights. Mordryth looked pissed at Opal. Whether it was because he knew it and wanted to keep it under wraps for leverage or not I have no idea. After the revelation a voice from upstairs said it was.

Walking down the stairs is Ben Grad. He's a wizard and the guy that Mordryth was shooting at in the alley that started all of this. Not only does he tell us the kidnapping was staged, but he and the girl are in love. The kidnapping was a front so that she could get out of getting hitched to the captain of the guard. Only problem is that Zajax double crosses them and ends up kidnapping her for real. Zajax probably saw those suckers from a mile away. What a bunch of dumbasses.

Since we're still deputized by the city and the captain we decide to help out. We get to the place where Zajax and the girl are supposed to be; a run down place in the "good" section of town. We enter in intervals of twos, so as not to attract attention. We find the room where they're supposed to be except the door is locked. Carlin breaks out his tools and gets the lock open in no time and without making any noise. Hmmm. I wonder if he would be interested in some side money? Anyway, we have to force our way in. Looks like someone beat us here. Both Zajax and one of his boys are dead. The one has a dagger in his back, his girl's by what Ben Grad says, and a symbol of Akragus the god of Death on him. To add to the [BROWNIES] we find ourselfs in the girl is gone...Again!

We take the dead body of Zajax back to Nigel's. He's got a spell that will make a dead man talk. And here I thought dead men tell no tales. Ha! Zajax tells us that the first kidnapping was a front, then he figured to hell with this. I want more money and kidnapped her for real. As he was waiting for the ransom a group of evil clerics who worship the god of death kill him and kidnap her. She's been taken to an abandoned monastary where she's to be sacraficed to the god of death Akragus. Can you believe this [FLOPPING] mess?

We have to ride out to the monastery so we get back on the [WOMBAT] [FLOPPING] horses. It's not as painful as the last time but it still hurts like hell. We stop at an inn halfway to the meeting place to stay the night. There's three travelers in the common room who seem to be staying the night. I get a bad vibe about em and tell Mordryth. We have Riz and Mordryth's raven, Ragde', keep an eye out on em. I make sure to tell Riz to keep an eye out on them, NOT any food or garbage. He gives me the rat equivalent of a sad look of disappointment. I tell him this is more important than his stomach. They head out and I head to the our room. Mordryth is in the mindset to play cleaning wench and is cleaning the room. Whatever rings his chimes. I lay down to go to sleep and rest my aching [CHAIR].
